Berkeley Health Division Provides Seasonal Flu Clinic October 6, 2009

Although the H1N1 flu virus is getting a lot of headlines, the community also needs to protect itself from seasonal flu. Every year, the flu sends 20,000 children to the hospital and is the cause of death for more than 4,000 Californians. Everyone should talk to their primary health care providers about getting the seasonal flu vaccine.

If you and your family cannot get vaccinated through your regular health care providers, the City of Berkeley Public Health Division is providing a Free Seasonal Flu Clinic.

WHAT: Free Seasonal Flu Clinic
WHEN: Tuesday October 6, 2008 3 pm - 7 pm
WHERE: Berkeley Adult School, 1701 San Pablo Ave.
(Seniors and those needing special assistance should enter on Curtis Street.)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: (510) 981-5300

The clinic will have standard seasonal flu shots available for anyone older than 6 months and nasal vaccine (FluMist) for all healthy people between the ages of 2 and 49 all at no cost. FluMist is a nasal vaccine, which is a great choice for many children — no needles!

The Center for Disease Control recommends that every child between the ages of 6 months and 18 years be vaccinated for the seasonal flu (except those with a serious egg allergy).

To speed up your visit, download an intake form from www.CityofBerkeley.info/publichealth. Print the form, fill it out and bring it with you. Forms will also be available at the flu clinic as well.

Vaccines for H1N1 are not yet available and will not be provided at this clinic. For updates, visit www.cityofberkeley.info/publichealth or talk to your health care provider.

This event is hosted by the City of Berkeley Public Health Division in partnership with the Berkeley Adult School/Berkeley Unified School District.
