It's finally here! The big start-of-the-year PTSA meeting will take place
tomorrow, Tuesday evening, from 7 to 9 PM in the Little Theater (on the
Allston Way side of the Community Theater). We will have a ton of updates
on what's going on at Berkeley High, elections for parent reps for School
Governance Council (SGC) and for the Berkeley Schools Enrichment Project
(BSEP) committee, and a question & answer session with BHS Principal Jim
Slemp. It's a wonderful way to get a wealth of information about what is
happening at Berkeley High and in the District, and to meet the parents who
will be representing you on the SGC, BSEP and PTSA.

Additional Agenda Items: If anyone has something they would like to have on
the agenda, please contact me by tomorrow morning at the latest as the
agenda will be set by noon.

Election Update: Everyone should take one last look at the Candidates'
Statements tomorrow morning which have been posted on the PTSA Website
Three new candidates will be added, as well as the missing SLC (Small
Learning Community) affiliation for several candidates.

An Important SGC By-law of Note: Article IV, Section 4 of the SGC by-laws
states:

"Four parents, who are not employed at Berkeley High School, [will be]
elected by the PTSA. There will be one parent each elected from Berkeley
International High School, Academic Choice and Small Schools. These three
elected representatives will be the candidates who receive the highest
number of votes in each of these groups. The fourth elected representative
will be the person who otherwise receives the next highest number of votes
from any group. At least one of the four parents must reside in a different
BUSD neighborhood category than the other three."

This may or may not effect how you vote, but we felt it was worth letting
you know how the four parent reps will be determined by the voting. The two
alternates will be those who receive the next highest vote totals,
regardless of their Small Learning Community affiliation.

It should be a very enjoyable and productive evening. We look forward to
seeing you there!

Sincerely,

Mark van Krieken

BHS PTSA President (for one last day)
