Clearing absences is clearly an important topic. Last week I posted a short
piece on leaving school midday. It prompted several experienced parents to
write. Their tips are below.
1. There is a limited time to clear absences: five days.
2. The attendance office is not open to students except before school, at
lunch and after school. So while a parent should call & clear the absence,
the student does not have to get a clearance slip before returning to
classes as that would mean they would have to miss periods waiting for the
attendance office to open.
In summary: Parents call (644-6209 day or night) or give the student a note.
The call or note generates a clearance slip. The student has a week (from
the absence) to pick up that slip from the attendance office and take it
around to teachers. For the complete "how to clear an absence," please
consult your student's BHS Organizer which he or she should have bought
during registration. If they don't have an organizer, we still have a few
available at the Front Desk for $3.
