STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

ADMINISTRATION

1. Here's the schedule for the adjudicators for the jazz ensemble auditions.

Thursday, Sept. 10 -- Marty Weiner, trombones
Friday, Sept. 11 -- Dave LeFavre and Dave Ellis, saxophones

They should be arriving in the mid-afternoon, and should just come over to the band room after checking in.  The auditions will go from 3:30 until we're done.

2. Parents...want to learn how to go on our new Powerschool program? We will give you Powerschool log-ins and access to the system at Back-to School night. Please be patient until then. You will be able to log on and see your child's attendance, grades, homework assignments and more. Back-to–School night is October 1, 2009.

*3. Attention students and staff: If you still need to take your photo ID, please go to the Counseling Center before school and at lunch on Thursday.  You can have your photo taken by Ms. Cooks.

*4. Yearbooks - Are on sale at myyear.com for $60 until September 25th then they go up to $70.  Buy soon, they don't go down.

CLUBS

1. Do you have something to say about teen health?  Want to get together with your peers and make a difference in your community?  The Teen Health Education programs - Youth Advisory Board, PASSHEN and TREAL are currently hiring for the 2009-2010 school year!  Come to the Health Center (H105) to learn more about these exciting leadership opportunities!  Applications for all programs are available NOW in the Health Center and are due by Thursday, September 10th at 4pm.

2. Are you interested in serving your school and community and developing your leadership abilities? Well President Obama wants YOU and Berkeley High does too! Please come to the leadership office, D148 (between the food court and counselor's offices) to pick up an application to become a class deputy OR to learn about positions that may be available in the future. AND calling all freshmen! We need a highly motivated class president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. Finally there are a few other vacant offices right now including class treasurer and secretary for ALL classes, ASB Clubs Commissioner, and ASB Liasion. Come to the leadership office to learn more. LEADERS WANTED.

3. Leadership meetings: Juniors will meet Sept. 10th at lunch, and Sophomores will meet on Sept. 15th. Committee leaders please be present! We need to see you!

4. Would you like to travel to Europe this year?  Then join the French Club! The first meeting is this Friday, September 11th, at lunch in C106. The meeting will not be long and snacks will be provided!

*5. LaRaza club will be having an event on Sept. 16th, Mexican Independence Day. There will be food and drinks sold and a performance by a Mexican Folkloric Dance group. Please support La Raza. All events will take place on the senior steps.

*6. Model United nations Club is now meeting every Thursday in C127. Come and learn about the United Nations and participate in conferences at UC Berkeley and Stanford. This would be a great club if you are interested in global affairs for politics, or are currently enrolled to take globalization with Mr. Angell.

7. Berkeley High Creative Writing Club - meet every Thursday at lunch in C135. This club will help you get feedback on your stories and poems from peers. Will feature guest speakers and is a great way to fill CAS hours!  You'll be able to build a portfolio of writing that will look great for colleges.

SPORTS

Come support BHS football this Friday vs. Freedom High at Freedom.  JV plays at 4:30 pm, and Varsity at 7:00 pm.  GO Jacket Football!

JOBS

Berkeley Public Library is hiring seven (7) students to work at the Central library and branches. These jobs involve assisting Teen Services librarians in a variety of tasks and working with library materials. Salary: $10/hour. The application period runs from Sept. 8 through Sept. 30, 2009. Pick up and return the completed applications to the 2nd floor Reference Desk at the Central Library. You must be at least 16 years old. Successful applicants can expect to begin work in mid-October. SENIOR/JUNIOR SECTION

Students who need fee waivers: We have ACT fee waivers.  We do not have SAT fee waivers.  We will make an announcement when we receive the SAT fee waivers.  See Ms. Price or Ms Sandberg before or after school if you need a fee waiver for the ACT.
