STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
March 31, 2009           

ADMINISTRATION

*1.  BSEP Meeting today!   Please all members be present.  4:30pm until the meeting ends-- Conference Room B.  All members need to be present, we will be voting.

*2.  Wednesday, April 15th is Late Start Day for the month of April.  Please remind all students and staff.

3.  All lost and found items will be placed by the library on April 1st and 2nd.  Please check for any lost item.

4.  BART Ticket orders will be taken on March 31 at lunchtime in room D224.   Ticket price is $16.00 each.  You may purchase up to 4 tickets per person.  Cash only. No checks.

*5.  Seniors -- Achievers will be at BHS on Friday, April 3 at lunchtime. Please be in the courtyard if you need to order caps, gowns, or rings.  If you haven't ordered, please don't forget.

CLUBS

*1.  Don't be fooled -- there is Cooking Club this Wednesday, April 1 and it will be a celebration of Spring!  Risotto, salad and sweet crepes, plus dying Easter Eggs!  Join us for fun, friends, and free food.  In H106 at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, April 1st.

2.  CHORUS CLUB - Chorus club will be rehearsing at Monday and Tuesday lunch in the Band Room A201, preparing for the concert on June 1.  Big thanks to all those who sang at the Performing Arts Showcase on Sunday - fantastic!  Any questions: Contact ianfarnkopf at pacbell.net.

*3.  Want to talk about teen issues, friendships, dating, parents, stress . . . whatever?  Come to H110 at lunch on Tuesdays.

FOR ALL STUDENTS

1.  Project WHAT – Part/time jobs for teenagers and young adults, ages 15-24, who have had a parent in prison or jail, to increase awareness of what it's like to have had a parent in prison or jail and to improve services for youth with incarcerated parents.  The job entails working with a writing instructor to write a true story based on your personal experience, speak publicly at conferences about your experience, and facilitate trainings for adults and youth.  $8/hour for summer training + $100 bonus at the end of the summer.  $10-$12/hour for weekly meetings during the school year, plus fees for presenting at conferences or training.  Applications and more information available in D221.  Deadline:
April 23.

*2.  Spring Break Jobs! -- If you are 16 years or older, love working with children, and want to work during your spring break, we want to hear from you!  Sarah's Science is recruiting counselors ages 16 and up to work at our wonderful Sarah's Science Spring Break Camp from April 6th to 10th, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The camps will be at Black Pine Circle Elementary School in Berkeley and Lake Merritt United Methodist Church in Oakland. Counselors can work one or more days. Working partial days might be possible. Starting pay is $8 per hour. For more information, please contact us asap at 510-581-3739 and ask for Minane or Kathy.

FOR JUNIORS

1.  SAT/ACT TEST DATES – March 31 is the regular registration deadline for the May 2 SAT and SAT subject tests. May 8 is the regular registration deadline for the June 13 ACT.  Fee waivers for low income students are available in D221.

2.  Students Rising Above – Open to juniors from a low income family who have overcome obstacles that are not of their own making, have a GPA of 3.0 or above, live in the Bay Area and are planning on attending a four year college.  The scholarship covers all college expenses not covered by other scholarships or financial aid.  In addition, students are given assistance in applying to college, help with dental and healthcare appointments, summer internships, and a mentor.  Applications are available in D221 and at http://studentsrisingabove.org/student scholarships .  Deadline:  April 4.

3.  Nordstrom's Scholarship – open to juniors who have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.7;  have made a substantial contribution to the community; are involved in school activities; require financial assistance to attend college and will be eligible to attend a four-year college or university in the U.S.  Deadline:  June 1.  Award:  $10,000 scholarship paid over four years at $2,500 per year.  Applications available in D221.

FOR SENIORS

San Francisco City College Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Program is now accepting applications for fall 2009.  Degrees in the hospitality industry, culinary arts, food service management and hotel management are available.  The program is certified by the American Culinary Federation. EVENTS

1.  Be sure to come to MORP, a mind blowing dance on April 3rd at 7pm in our very own BHS cafeteria.  It will be off the hook.  Admission is $10 but if you wear black or white it is $8 because of the theme: BLACK Night Lights.  Get all your friends to come to the most awesome dance the world is yet to witness.

*2. Come audition for Dance Production 2010!  The audition date is scheduled for March 31st after school. Come to the A-stage.
