STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
December 19, 2008

*New to the bulletin today

ADMINISTRATION

*1.  School will be closed for Winter Break: December 20 - January 2, 2009. Please enjoy the holidays.

2.  BART tickets are here for December.  Please pick up tickets by 12/19/08 in room D224.

3.  The Health Center will be closed during winter break. If you need health services, please visit the Public Health Clinic on University and 6th street, Planned Parenthood, or the Oakland Children's Hospital Teen Clinic. Have a safe and healthy break!

4.  Yearbooks will be on sale for $65 dollars until Dec. 26.  Books can be purchased at school or on myyear.com or in H102b during 7th period.  If you have questions or concerns about buying a yearbook please email:Gabriel_berent at berkeley.k12.ca.us.  Senior Parents:  Celebrate your students' achievements in the yearbook with a senior page.  Space is as cheap as $65 dollars for a quarter of a page, or $180 dollars for a full page.  If you order before the winter break we will give you a $10 off the full page.

5.  CALENDAR SALES -- The annual fundraising calendar sales for the CAS video program are starting.  These are 2009 wall, page-a-day and engagement calendars that are selling for only $5.  They make great gifts.  Saturdays from noon until 4 pm on December 20.  2310 Valley St.  This is 3 blocks west of Sacramento St. off Channing Way.  Rain or shine!

CLUBS

Too old for your stuffed animals?  Wanna get rid of those Barbies? If you do, don't throw them away!  La Raza Club's Dia de los Reyes toy drive would like you to give those toys that you don't play with and make it a holiday gift for some kid.  Bring any toy donations to C112 to Ms. Taylor. Toys will be accepted all week, and delivered to low income schools and hospitals on Tues, January 6th.

SPORTS

Letterman jackets are here!  Come to the athletic office to pick them up.

FOR ALL STUDENTS

Princeton Prize in Race Relations -- Princeton is sponsoring an awards program for high school students to recognize, support and encourage young people who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the cause of relations among the races.  Cash awards of up to $1,000 will be awarded. The deadline is January 31.  For more information, an application and examples of previous winners, go to www.princeton.edu/PrincetonPrize.

FOR JUNIORS

1.  JUNIORS -- YOUR PSAT SCORES ARE NOW AVAILABLE. You may pick them up any day in the College/Career Center at lunch or from 3:15 to 4:00 pm ONLY. Scores will not be given out at any other times.  Sophomores will receive their PSAT scores from their English teachers.

2.  SCHOLARSHIP FOR SAT/ACT PREP -- East Bay Community Scholarship Fund is offering a scholarship to pay for an SAT/ACT Prep Course for low income students living in Alameda or Contra Costa counties.  Applications are available in D221.  Deadline:  January 31, 2009.

3.  Discover Card Tribune Award Program -- Students with a minimum cumulative GPA for 9th and 10th grades of 2.75, who demonstrated leadership, are actively contributing to their communities and have experienced and overcome a significant obstacle are eligible. Apply at https://www.applyists.net/.  Use access code DISC.  Postmark deadline:  January 31. More information available in the College/Career Center.
