The City of Berkeley and the Berkeley Unified School District are
preparing a Citywide Pools Master Plan to meet the current and future
aquatic needs of the community. Three public workshops are being held
to better understand these needs. At an earlier workshop in October
participants discussed their vision for the City's pool system and
identified issues and needs.
Community Workshop #2 will be held on Wednesday, November 19.
Participants will comment on master plan alternatives and identify
preferred alternatives to be refined and investigated. This workshop
will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Malcolm X Elementary School
Library, 1731 Prince Street, Berkeley.
The third and final community workshop will be held on Wednesday,
January 28, 2009. Participants will comment on the Draft Citywide
Pools Master Plan. This workshop will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the
James Kenney Community Center, Community Room, 1720 8th Street,
Berkeley.
The City and BUSD are working with a 16-member Task Force and
architecture and pool experts to develop the plan over the next six
months. Key topics of the Master Plan include King, Willard and West
pools; the Warm Water Pool; and options for new swim facilities.
Community members are encouraged to attend these workshops and express
their opinions about the future of the City's pools and aquatic
programs.
