STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
October 24, 2008

*New to the bulletin today

ADMINISTRATION

*1.  BHS logo wearables are being sold every Friday after school, 3:15 - 3:45 from the Athletic Director's office right next to Donahue gym.  Come check out the T-shirts, sweatpants, sweatshirts, hats, and more.  We accept cash or checks payable to Berkeley Athletic Fund.

2.  BART tickets for October are in.  Please pick up your tickets by today at lunchtime only in room D224.  All tickets not picked up by today will become available for sale to the students.  The Parent Center no longer holds tickets beyond the stated pickup date.

3.  Yearbook Announcement: Senior baby pictures are due by October 31st with self-addressed envelopes in H102B 7th period.  Yearbooks are on sale in H102 or buy them on myyear.com.

4.  Who says you have to be a doctor to save a life?  Donate blood in a safe environment -- in school -- today in the Jacket Gym.  Go to www.BeADonor.com, and put in the sponsor code: Berkeley High to schedule an appointment.  Free baseball caps to donors!

*5.  Do you enjoy: Feeling as if your head will explode? Full body pain? Having your throat hurt so bad, YOU CAN'T EAT?!!! I didn't think so! So (make sounds of a drumroll . . .) get your flu shot this year! FREE FLU SHOTS on October 28th, Tuesday from 3-7pm at the Berkeley Adult School on San Pablo and Virginia. If you are under 18 you will need your parent or guardian to go with you. They should go, along with your little sister or brother and your grandma and grandpa. Everyone needs a flu shot.

*6.  Trick or treat.  Use this time wisely and hand in missing or make-up work because the quarter ends October 31st.

*7.  Youth Works After School Employment Program -- The application period for fall-winter semester employment ends Oct. 31st.  Apply in person at 1947 Center St. or if you have picked up an application already, the deadline to return the completed application is Oct. 31st.  The application must be brought in, along with with photo ID, social security card, proof of residence, resume and proof of 2.0 GPA.  You can call 981-4970 for details.


CLUBS

*1.  Like to tinker?  Like to build? Come by Electrical Engineering club! We'll meet at lunch today in room G217. 

*2.  Travel with the French Club!  Do you want to see Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris?  Then come to C102 today at lunch to find out how you can see the world this school year.  They will also be going to the San Francisco Opera's dress rehearsal of "The Elixir of Love"!  Get details about this event at the meeting.

*3.  Knitters!  Come to the library today during lunch for the knitting club meeting!  Bring your lunch.  Yarn and needle supplied.

*4.  Interested in learning about South Africa?  Join Generation for Change, a club to learn about the history and cultures of South Africa. Fundraisers for a youth led group working to alleviate the poverty.  Meet at lunch in C310.

*5.  Come join the History club!  Come learn and enjoy a great club! Come Tuesdays at lunch in C310.

*6.  Come join La Raza Club!  We are meeting Mondays at 3:30 pm in room H201.  Gracias!

*7.  VAGINA! Yup, we said it!  It's that time of year.  Come to the Vagina Monologues informational meeting in A203 on October 28th during lunch. Learn about auditions and the show.  Guys are welcome too!

SPORTS

1.  The Athletic office is currently accepting completed sports packets for the winter sports season. You must be cleared by the Berkeley Athletic Department by Nov. 10th which is the first day of winter sports tryouts. Your completed sports packet must include a signed and stamped physical from a doctor. Sports packets can be picked up in the athletic office during lunch and immediately after school. Remember -- "no clearance, no tryout!"

FOR SENIORS

COLLEGE VISITS -- Sign up in the College/Career Center

EVENTS

1.  As we are approaching Berkeley High's homecoming game for football we will need freshmen runners to be Count and Countess, sophomore runners for Dutch and Dutchess, junior runners for Prince and Princess and some seniors to run for King and Queen.  If you interested come by D148 to begin campaigning for a crown. Winners will be announced at the varsity homecoming game (after voting earlier that day).  Run to claim your crown to add to your list of good memories.

2.  Were you a dancer in last year's shows?  If you want to buy a DVD of Dance Production, Choreographers or Dance Projects come see Ms. Carr at lunchtime this week in the A building.  DVD's are $5 each.
