College Advisor's Bulletin
Tuesday, September 9, 2008

SAT WORD OF THE DAY:  ABERRATION – a deviation from what is normal; anomaly.  Lisa Simpson’s B+ on her test was just an aberration, and she immediately resumed her normal pattern of straight A’s.

PSAT – Berkeley High School is offering the PSAT on Wednesday, October 15 from 8:30-11:30 at school. Room assignments will be announced closer to the test date.  All sophomores will automatically be registered for the test and can take it for free, due to a generous donation from an anonymous donor.  Juniors can sign up for the test beginning on Monday, September 8.  Register with Ms. Reed in D173 at lunchtime and immediately after school.  Cost is $15.  Fee reductions are available for low income students.  The PSAT is an excellent practice test for the SAT, which is required by the UC’s, Cal States and many private schools.  For juniors only, it is also the qualifying exam for National Merit scholarships.

*TODAY - Want to learn about California Scholarship Federation (CSF), Berkeley High's ONLY Honor Society?!?!?! CSF is a state-wide organization which recognizes high school students for academic excellence and community service. Come to an informational meeting this Tuesday at Lunch in the College Career Center . We will cover the deadlines, application process, and answer any other questions students may have about CSF. For more information email CSF Leadership at csfbhs at gmail.com.
