STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
September 3, 2008           

Administration

1. BART tickets - students if you purchased BART tickets before school
ended in June and did not pick up your ticket please pick them up.
Regular BART ticket orders will be taken on September 3 in room D224
at lunchtime.  Students may purchase only 4 tickets each.  $16.00
each.  Exact change-no checks.

2. The Berkeley High School math department will conduct a final round
of Honors testing Thursday, Sept. 4, at 3:45pm in room H306.  Students
need to sign up with Mr. Weitz (H306) to take the test.

3. Starting today, the health center will be closed every 1st and 3rd
Wednesday from 8:30 -10 am,  In case of an emergency, please call the
school front desk and they will call for emergency services.


Clubs

1. The Berkeley High Student Court is enrolling advocates for this
year's program.  If you're interested please come to room H208 on
Thursday, September 4th to sign up as well.  Don't miss this great
opportunity.

2. Are you interested in being a peer health educator? 10th, 11th, and
12th graders can pick up applications in the health center (H105) for
PASSHEN (Peers Advocating Safety and Sexual Health Education Now).
Don't miss your chance to be an advocate for health at BHS!
Applications are due Wednesday, September 10th.

3. This is a reminder that applications to join the Peer education
group PASSHEN, are currently available in the Health Center, room
H105.  Earn class credit and get paid to educate your peers!
Applications are due to the health Center by Wednesday, September
10th.  Apply today.

4. Best Buddies is back!  Come to the info session on Tuesday,
September 9th, 2008!! You are not required to be in the club if you
come!!  Candy will be provided!


Sports

1. Water polo info meeting for parents of players: Thursday Sept 4th
7-8pm at the Jacket Pool (Bancroft and Milvia) with Coach Bill Gabler.


Senior / Junior Section 

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

1. Looking for a BHS senior female student who would like to work with
a beginning freshman girl who needs help with all major subjects;
math, science, English. Start after Labor Day or before.  Job
description is:  Overseeing with her homework and helping her get more
organized. Must be reliable, academic, organized and have a good
attitude. Beginning with a couple of hours a week. Pay is $12:00 per
hour.  Meet at the Berkeley public library after school. Time and day
not decided as yet but most likely right after school

2. Homework Helper needed in math and language arts for 8th grade
girl.  One hour 2-3 times per week. Will pay $12.00 per hour. Call

FOR SENIORS

REMINDER:  If you are applying to private colleges which need a
counselor recommendation, your Senior Profiles are due on September
5th if you are applying Early Decision or Early Action or to any
school which requires a recommendation by November 1 and September
19th  for Regular Decision.  You do NOT need to fill these out if you
are applying only to the UC's, Cal State Universities or community
colleges. 

COLLEGE VISITS

Over 100 college representatives visit Berkeley High's College/Career
Center every year.  Seniors may attend up to 10 of those meetings,
with the permission of the teacher whose class they are missing.  Sign
up in advance in the College/Career Center and pick up a permission

SAT/ACT TEST DATES - Tuesday, September 9 is the regular registration
deadline for the October 4 SAT and SAT subject tests.  Friday,
September 19 is the regular registration deadline for the October 25
ACT test.  Fee waivers for low income students are available in D221.


Events/ Performances

Students interested in auditioning for the BHS Jazz Ensemble should
sign-up in the A bldg. Room A201.  Auditions will be held September
3rd, 4th, and 5th in room A201, during 7th period:

Wednesday (Trombones)
Thursday (Trumpets)
Friday (Rhythm and saxes)
