FOR ALL GRADES
Meyer Sound Labs has 4-6, possibly 10 paid summer internships for high 
school students (must be 16 years old) in manufacturing operations, 
marketing, and document control doing assembly or data entry type work. 
Interns must commit to a minimum of 6-8 weeks for 30 hours per week. 
Interested students can pick up an application in D221 or stop by Meyer 
Sound at 2832 San Pablo Ave. (near Ashby) between 8:30 AM and 5 PM to

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY – Thursday, May 22, Lake Temescal, East Bay 
Regional Park District hosts Special Kids Fishing Derbies for disabled 
elementary school children.  Every child needs an older “buddy” to 
escort them through the day’s activities.  Volunteers will attend an 
orientation before the elementary students arrive, receive a free 
t-shirt and breakfast and lunch.  For more information, call

Intern for Congresswoman Barbara Lee over the summer – Interns will be 
taught how to organize, empower and mobilize the voting public behind 
both Congresswoman Lee and the causes and candidates she endorses.  No

Do you have a problem to solve?  MTV wants to help!  Contact them with 
your issue and they may hook you up with a mentor to help support and 
advise you how to solve it.  Open to students between the ages of 14-19 
who need help with a problem you’re having with friends, self-esteem,

Immediate internship opportunity available with Indie-Pop Music, LLC, 
an independent record label with offices located in the Bay Area and 
New York City. Approximately 4 hours/week is required, where you will 
help in the development, distribution, and promotion of all Indie-Pop 
artists. Creativity, dedication, and the ability to work on a team is

Outward Bound Gay and Lesbian Youth Leadership Mountaineering Course, 
July 11-20, 2008
Saguache Range, Colorado.  This 10-day wilderness leadership course is 
designed for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered young adults 
(ages 16-25) from across the country. During these transformational 
mountaineering adventures, students have hands-on opportunities to 
challenge themselves both physically and mentally. They work to 
strengthen leadership skills and test problem-solving and risk-taking 
techniques both individually and as a community of LGBT people.

STAGE DOOR CONSERVATORY will be hiring three students to work as 
apprentices from June 16 through August 25.  Apprentices will assist 
with the day-to-day operation of our musical theater camp and with 
rehearsals. They will also select and focus upon one specialty area and 
focus on this area during their apprenticeship.  Each apprentice will 
be paid a $1,000 stipend at the conclusion of the 10 week period and 
can be absent for one week during the season, with the exception of the 
weeks of August 2 and August 18. Program hours: 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, MON 
- FRI. Apprentices must also work at our shows on August 8, 9 and 10

Free writing workshop, “Finding Your Voice,” sponsored by Youth Speaks, 
a national organization dedicated to Spoken Word performance, education 
and youth development programs.  Facilitators: Katri Foster and Lauren 
Whitehead.  Wednesdays 4-6pm in Room C327. This workshop will encourage 
you to rethink what you've been told and to question what you've 
assumed through creative exploration of the world around you. All Youth 
Speaks After School Writing Workshops are FREE for everyone and no 
registration is necessary.

*SAT/ACT TEST DATES – May 9 is the regular registration deadline for 
the June 14 ACT test.  Fee waivers for low income students are 
available in D221.   May 15 is the late registration deadline for the 
June 7 SAT and SAT subject tests.  These are the last tests until the 
fall.

FOR SENIORS
CAL GRANT – YOU HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE.  If you did not turn in your Cal 
Grant Information Release Form before March 2, you have another chance 
to do so.  Pick up a “Late Cal Grant GPA Verification Form” from D173 
and return it to Ms. Mellion no later than May 12.

Are you planning to attend a UC campus in the fall?  If so, you must 
take the Analytical Writing Placement Exam on May 10 unless you scored 
30 or better on the Combined English/Writing test on the ACT; 680 or 
better on the Writing section of the SAT reasoning test; or a 3, 4 or 5

Hispanic/Latino students - win free tickets to and from your college 
campus.  Southwest Airlines and the Hispanic Association of Colleges 
and Universities (HACU) are sponsoring a travel award program.  If you 
are enrolled in a two or four year college, have at least a 2.5 GPA and 
economic need, you can apply for up to four round-trip tickets on 
Southwest Airlines for yourself and/or your parent to use when 
traveling to or from your college.  For more information, go to

SCHOLARSHIPS

Salvadoran-American Leadership and Educational Fund (SALEF) – Open to 
graduating seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 who have a background of 
Salvadoran, Central American, Latino ethnicity, have financial need, 
and have a history of community service and involvement.  recipients 
must be able to help other students through mentoring, community 
service, or tutoring after receiving the award.  The application is 
available at www.salef.org .  Scholarship:  $500-$2,500.  Deadline:  
June 30.

Sallie Mae Unmet Need Scholarship Program – Open to U.S. citizens and 
permanent residents who are accepted or enrolled as full-time 
undergraduate students at approved, accredited institution, who have a 
minimum 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), whose combined family 
income is $30,000 or less and whose financial aid packages fall more 
than $1,000 short of students’ financial need. Recipients will be 
selected based on financial need. Unmet Need Scholarships range from 
$1,000 to $3,800.  Deadline:  May 31.  Apply at
