Administration

*1. Are you currently enrolled in an AP class and plan to take the AP 
test in May, 2008?  Registration for the tests begins Monday, March 3 
through March 14 during lunch and after school to 4 pm at the D 
building ticket window on Allston Way.  Tests cost $96 for each of 
the first two and $86 for each subsequent test.  There are test 
subsidies available for low and middle income students.  See your AP 
teacher for fee reduction information and for a registration form. 
You may pay with cash, personal check or money order payable to 
Berkeley high School.  Do NOT wait until the last day to register.

2. Attention BHS students- improve those second semester grades. 
Study skills workshop Thursday, March 6th from 7-8 PM in the library. 
Find out about your best learning style, study  and test taking tips.

3. February 25th through March 7th:  BHS Counselors have reserved the
computer labs in G204 and the library from first through sixth periods
every day from February 25th through March 7th for online scheduling.
The labs will not be open to students during class time.  The labs
WILL be open before school, during lunch, and after school.  Please
plan accordingly if you need to use the computer lab to complete your
homework or class assignments.  Thank you!

4. BSEP applications are available!  You can pick up copies from the 
administration office. BSEP Applications are due TODAY!


Clubs

1. The Bible is the best selling book of all time, but how much do 
you actually know about it?  Do you have doubts about bible accuracy? 
Come to Youth today during lunch in C311.  We will be going over 
evidence for the validity of the bible.  Snacks provided.

2. Attention all French Club members: There is an important meeting 
today at lunch.  Please come to C102.    Also, welcome back Nina and 
Rebecca.

3. Asian and Pacific Islander Committee- there will be no APIC 
meeting today. But, we will have a meeting next week on March 6th!


Sports

*1. The Berkeley Girls Basketball team (2)  defeated Monte Vista (3) 
last night 58-55 in an exciting double-overtime game in the Donahue 
Gym.  The victory secures us a spot in the Norcal Tourney and moves 
the girls on to the NCS Division I Championship game.  They play 
Saturday versus Deer Valley (1) in Oakland's Oracle Arena at 6:40 pm.

Tickets are now on sale at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets purchased 
through Ticketmaster has a $.50 surcharge per ticket. Adults $12.50 
and Student/Child/Senior $8.50. Tickets may also be purchased at the 
ORACLE Arena Box Office Monday throug Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 
p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Parking at the 
ORACLE Arena is $15.


Senior / Junior Section

1. SENIORS - Community College Day - Tuesday, March 4 in the 
College/Career Center.  Get information on course offerings, 
applying, career and transfer programs, assessment tests and more. 
The schedule is:

2. The Berkeley Community Fund Scholarship is coming - On Wednesday, 
March 5, get information on the scholarship and mentorship programs 
available.  Two kinds of scholarships are available:  $4,000 per year 
for four years including a mentor, and one-time scholarships from 
$500 and up.  Presentation will be given twice in Conference Room B, 
once at lunch (12:16-12:56, late start day) and once after school 
(3:15).  Sign up in D221 to attend.

3. Gap Year Fair - Sunday, March 16, 2:00-4:00 pm, Jewish Community 
High School of the Bay, 1835 Ellis Street, San Francisco.  Free fair 
with exhibitors offering a variety of gap year options for students 
who are interested in taking some time off before attending college.

4. SAT/ACT Test dates- March 7 is the regular registration deadline
for the April 12 ACT test.  April 1 is the regular registration
deadline for the May 3 SAT and SAT subject tests.  Fee waivers for low
income students are available in D221.

5. All seniors! There is a senior hoody!  They will be pre-sold for 
$30 up until February  29th.

6. Yearbooks: Please, all seniors who turned in a baby picture- come 
pick them up in H102 after school this week!  Senior pages are due by 
next Friday the 29th of February.  Come buy your yearbook today at 
lunch or after school in H102.  If you qualify for free or reduced 
lunch you pay only $55.00.  Otherwise the yearbook is only $70 but 
that price will increase so buy them now!

7. African American Education Summit - Saturday, March 1, Cal State
East Bay, 9:00-3:00.  Includes empowering workshops for students and
parents; college admission information and resources; financial aid
and scholarship information; entertainment and vendor expo.  Lunch and
transportation provided.  For more information and to register, go to

8. SUMMER - Metropolitan Transportation Commission Summer High School
Internship Program - Students must be at least 16 years old, have
completed the 10th grade and have a GPA of 2.8 or higher (although
some students with lower GPA will be considered).  Graduating seniors
are eligible to apply. Interns will learn about opportunities in the
transportation field and provide assistance to MTC's transportation
partners.  25 internships available at sites throughout the Bay Area.
Interns are paid $9.50 per hour and may work full or part-time for up
to 8 weeks between June and August.  Applications available in D221 or
at http://www.mtc.ca.gov/jobs/high_school . Deadline:  March 28.

9. SCHOLARSHIPS - Beach Blanket Babylon Scholarship for the Arts -
Scholarships offered in the areas of voice, acting and dance.  Open to
seniors who are legal residents of the U.S.  One winner from each
category will be awarded $10,000 to be used for higher education.
Applications available in D221.  Deadline:  April 25.

Events/Performances

1. February 29th- BHS Talent Show at 7:00 pm in the Little Theater. 
Tickets for the show will go on sell that day until the time of the 
event.  $8 adults, $5 students.  Please come out and support your 
classmates.  Tickets can be purchased at lunch in D148.

2. I.T.P.s is coming!!! Come see the fantastic Independent Theater 
Projects. Three one-act plays
produced, directed and performed by students. Show opens this Friday 
and Saturday at 7:30 pm at the
Hillside Club, 2286 Cedar Street in Berkeley and continue through 
March 8. Tickets are $5 for students;
$12 for general.

3. Got Catwalk Potential?  Come Audition for African-American 
Department 1st Annual Fashion Show.  Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 
lunchtime and 3:30 pm.  Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors- tryouts in 
the D bldg Dance room
