"I started with practically nothing and ended with something... (My
coach) help(ed) me get my outline started and done. In fact without my
coach I don't (think) I would be doing the outline step." (BHS 10th
grade English student)

Parents, are you looking for a way to make a difference for teens in
the new year? Make a resolution now to become a WriterCoach Connection
volunteer and you'll find out why volunteers say this is the most
satisfying work they've done in the schools.

Coaches give personalized feedback to students on their writing
assignments in BHS Community Partnerships Academy's 9th and 10th grade
English classes. The one-on-one contact supports teachers and helps
students become confident and competent writers and thinkers. The
commitment is only 1-2 hours, two Friday mornings per month (during
1st & 2nd period).

WCC coaches represent diverse ethnicities, ages, and walks of life-all
are welcome! You don't need to be a writer or teacher. Our hands-on
training will give you effective strategies for working with young
writers. You can sign up for a January or February training now,
before the winter break, and look forward to mentoring students in
2008. For more info and to register: www.writercoachconnection.org (go
to "Volunteer").

Enjoy the rewards of working directly with students and being an
integral part of the school community. Feel free to contact me:
