College Advisor's Bulletin
Monday, December 3, 2007
SAT WORD OF THE DAY: MISAPPREHENSION – an error or misunderstanding.
Despite the fact that all of the hand-outs from the College/Career
Center stated clearly that the UC’s do not need a copy of a student’s
official transcript, many students had the misapprehension that they
needed to send one to each campus.
FOR ALL STUDENTS
*PSAT – We have not yet received the PSAT scores for students who took
the test this fall. We expect to receive them before winter break.
There will be an announcement in this bulletin and the Daily Bulletin
as soon as the scores are available.
JUNIORS - Summer Internship at UCSF. If you are interested in a
research-intensive summer internship, the Department of Pediatrics at
UCSF has an excellent program to introduce you to the world of science.
You will work in a laboratory and assigned a designated research
project while working with a mentor, attend seminars, tour UCSF and
other universities. UCSF is looking for motivated and responsible
students and are particularly encouraging applications from women,
underrepresented minorities and talented and motivated students who
have experienced economic or other challenges that might limit their
ability to achieve these academic and career goals. Applications are
available in D221. An information session on the program will be held
on Saturday, December 8 at 1:00 pm at UCSF, 3333 California St., SF.
Application deadline: January 28.
FOR SENIORS
Congratulations to all of you who turned in your UC and Cal State
applications. If you are still interested in applying to California
public four year colleges, the following schools are still accepting
applications: UC campuses: Riverside and Merced. Cal States:
Bakersfield, Channel Islands, Chico, Dominguez Hills, East Bay, Fresno,
Humboldt, Los Angeles, Monterey Bay, Northridge, San Bernardino, San
Francisco, San Jose, Sonoma and Stanislaus. Not all majors are open at
these campuses. If you need help with your application, please see Ms.
Abrams or Ms. Price.
Financial Aid Part 2 – Tuesday, December 4, 6:30-8:30 pm, Berkeley High
library (English) and College/Career Center (Spanish). Representatives
from the UC Berkeley financial aid office will explain how to fill out
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is required
to apply for financial aid by all U.S. colleges and universities. This
is a Cash for College event, so if more than 25 seniors are present,
one will win a $1,000 scholarship. Because this meeting will be very
crowded, we ask that only senior families attend.
SENDING TEST SCORES
1. If you are finished taking SAT’s and/or ACT’s and haven’t told
College Board or ACT to send your test scores to each UC and Cal State
campus where you are applying, do so ASAP. To send your SAT scores to
Cal State campuses, use the code 3594 (CSU Mentor) and you will only
have to pay once to make your scores available to each Cal State
campus. This service is not available through ACT.
2. If you’re taking the SAT and/or the ACT in December, make sure that
you have listed all of the UC’s and CSU’s on your registration form
(you can use the code 3594 to send all of your SAT scores to each CSU
campus) so that they will receive your scores. If you wait until you
get your scores and then tell the testing agency to send them, it will
be too late.
SAT/ACT TEST DATES – December 26 is the regular registration deadline
for the January 26 SAT and SAT subject tests. Friday, January 4 is the
regular registration deadline for the February 9 ACT test. Fee waivers
for low income students are available in D221.
