STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

1. BART Tickets are in.  Come to D224 at lunch to pick them up.

*2. Achievers will be here on Friday at lunch to accept cap and gown
orders.  Class rings, announcements and other items will also be
available for order. Call 408-441-7200 if you have any questions or
concerns

3. Young Writers Award competition- Open to students in grades 10,11,
and 12.  Students may submit either a group of three poems, a short
story or one-act play or a personal or academic essay.  All entries
must be original work and sponsored by a high school teacher. 
Applications are available in D221 or at
www.bennington.edu/news_bennyoungwriter.asp.  Postmark or submission
deadline: November 1.  First prize: $500.

4. The Berkeley High School Yearbook deadline for senior portraits has
been extended one FINAL time.  If you have not already been
photographed for Berkeley high School, please make sure to go online
and scheduled an appointment.  The deadline is October 30th and will
NOT be extended again.
The limited number of new appointments are available online.  Please
go to our website, http://www.abcschoolportraits.com, and visit the
Seniors section(click on "Appointments").

*5. The Student court will be holding trials today at 5:30 pm on the
second floor of the Berkeley Unified School District building (2134
MLK Jr Way).  Come through to watch how your peers participate in
school discipline and empower themselves by making their voices heard.
Participate yourself by signing up for the jury!  Refreshments will be
served.

*6. FOR ALL STUDENTS- COLLEGE FAIR - 17th Annual City wide College
Night, November 1, 6-8 pm, College of Alameda Gynasium, Building G.
More than 30 college representatives from two and four year colleges
will be available to speak with you.  There will also be workshops on
admissions and financial aid, as well as transfer programs from
community colleges.  For more information, contact Sandra Pula, at

Clubs

1. Yearbooks on sale at lunchtime in front of the Theater or at 7th
period in H102 for $70.00.  Buy them for $65.00 on myyear.com until
October 31st.

*2. Today, 10/30, is the first Condom Club of the school year!  Don't
miss your chance to learn the facts about HIV, STIs, and how to be
safe at lunch today in room H114.  Remember, you must attend the
entire lunch period to get a sticker on the back of your ID, which is
good for the rest of your time at BHS!  Snacks will be served.

*3. Close-Up this Wednesday at lunch in C310. Come meet with Mr.
Angell and find out about an exciting trip to Washington DC.  That's
right -see Politics up close!


Sports

*1. Congratulations to the boys water polo team on winning the league
championship this weekend.  They beat Piedmont 16-14 in the
semi-finals and O'Dowd in the finals 13-8 to stay undefeated in
league.  They seeded 12 out of 20 in the NCS Tourney and face Acalanes
on Saturday, November 3rd.  Time and location to be announced.  Go
jackets!

*2. Good luck to the girls tennis team in today's league tournament.
Berkeley is hosting the tournament which is being held at MLK Middle
tennis courts.

*3. Congratulations to the Jacket Football team on their fantastic win
over Alameda at Friday's Homecoming game.  The win puts them all alone
in first in league. Come out to Richmond this Friday and support your
jackets!  

*4. The girls volleyball team remains undefeated in league!  They play
Hercules at home today at 5:00 pm.  Come out and watch some great
volleyball.

5. To all BHS students who want to tryout for basketball, soccer or
wrestling:  You must have a valid annual physical and a complete
athletic packet to try out.  Now is the time to get a physical!
Athletic packets are available in the athletic office or in the front
office.  Turn it into the coach on first day of practice.  All winter
sports start on Monday, November 5.   Don't miss your opportunity to
play- get your paperwork together now!

Senior / Junior Section

1. Essay Readers and workshops- Essay readers will be available in the
College/Career Center at lunch time this week and next.  No sign-ups
are necessary; just bring your essay draft.

*2. Workshops:
Essay writing workshops:  Morning workshops will be held in the
College/Career Center.  Afternoon workshops in either Conference Room
A or B.  Students must sign up to attend.  Thursday, 11/1, 3:30
pm-Conference Room B.  Wednesday, 11/7, 7:30 am-in the College/Career
center.

*3. SAT/ ACT Dates- Tuesday, October 30 is the regular registration
deadline for the December 1 SAT and Sat subject tests.  Friday,
November 2 is the late registration deadline for December 8.

*4. APPLY TO THE UCs AND CAL SATES NOW! The UC application is now
available online at http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/
.  The first day to submit your application is November 1.  The Cal
State application is available at www.csumentor.edu.  You can start
the applications and save them as you go.  Sign up attend the
application workshops where you can get one on one help with both
applications.  All workshops will be held in the BHS library:

5. Seniors, Baby pictures are still being accepted for the Yearbook.
If you would like to have your baby picture in the yearbook, write
your first and last name.

*6. SENIORS-Sign up in the College/ Career Center to attend these
college visits.  You must get an authorization (Available in D221)
signed by the teacher whose class you will miss.

Events / Performances

1. The 7th Annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities tour
will be held April 1 - April 8, 2007 (Tour A).  If any student is
interested in the tour, please see Mrs. Parker in room D224.

2. For Halloween- this year be a scary surprise and come donate blood
to the blood drive. It's on October 30th in the Jacket Gym. Come well
rested and ready to make a spooky change in someone's life. Not
everyone is able to participate -- see the sign-in sheet for more
details or go to room D148.
