Administration

*1. On Monday, September 24th, students are invited to participate in
a search for a new Superintendent for the Berkeley Unified School
District. If you are interested in giving your input, please go to the
library at 3:30 pm on Monday.

*2. Hey! The Asian Pacific Islander Committee, APIC, will be having
their first meeting this Thursday, the 20th in room C333 at lunch.
Come to meet new people and have fun!

3. BHS Mathworks - Opens this week! Algebra I and Geometry Tutoring
Emphasis, all math questions welcome.  Tuesday and Thursday, 3:15-4:30
p.m., room H109 in Scott Willson's room.  Questions go to
kspivey at ix.netcom.com.

4. YAYA California Art Program - Young Aspirations, Young Artists
(YAYA) is a new interfaith, politically progressive and active youth
art jobs training program.  YAYA California is modeled after the
highly successful YAYA youth furniture painting arts enterprise of New
Orleans (featured on Oprah).  The program is for low income youth who
love art, and we recycle old furniture as our canvas, and transform it
into fine art for sale.  Members learn how to display and sell their
art in local galleries, become professional artists, and get paid for
full participation!  When: Weekdays from 3-6 pm at B-Tech.(2701 MLK
Jr. Way at Derby St)  or call 510-704-0689.
 Open kick off day - September 24th.  You can also visit us on

5. Make sure your vote counts!  Vote on one of two musicals being
considered for the Spring show.  "Grease" or "Company-by Stephen
Sondheim."   Sign your vote up on the Drama Callboard - 1st floor, A
building.

*6. King Middle School Saturday School Program needs you!
Enthusiastic, capable and committed high school students can get
community service and tutoring credits through individual or group
tutoring for 3 hours on Saturday mornings, beginning 9/22.  Contact

7. Are you an entrepreneur?  Do you have a great idea you'd like to
develop?  The Future leadership Institute may be the program for you!
Stop by D148 for an application and details.

8. Mathworks needs you!  Got community service, tutoring credits and
be a leader.  Come tutor at Willard, Tuesdays 3-4:30pm, starting

9. Parents of Sophomores, please come to the Sophomore AC Potluck on
September 25 from 6:30 until 8:00 pm at BHS.  Make new connections and
reaffirm old ones; this is a chance for teachers and parents of the AC
Core sections, English and Social Studies, to talk in a more relaxed
environment.
Exact locations of the CORE meeting places will be posted that
evening.

RALLY INFORMATION

1. Spirit week is coming soon!  Support your class with a t-shirt
design or by joining the rally dance.  The Associated Student Body,
ASB, is currently taking ideas for spirit week!  Bring them by D148 or
come by for more information.

2. Seniors - start choreography rally dances!  Auditions are coming
soon!

3. Freshman class of 2011!  Leadership is looking for you!  If you are
interested ion joining freshmen Leadership, come to D148, the
leadership office during lunch on Thursday, September 20th.

4. Do you like to draw? The sophomore class of 2010 is looking for
t-shirt designs for our rally day shirt!  Have any ideas or drawings?
Submit them to Mrs. Jordan in D148 and represent your class of 2010.


Clubs

1. Membership applications for the California Scholarship Federation
are now available in the college career center.  Join CSF to show your
enthusiasm for citizenship and academics come to our information
meeting Thursday, September 20th at lunch in the College career center

2. Come find out how you can attend the Lenea Festival - A huge drama
festival in Sacramento in February.  Act, sing, dance- but you must
come to the Drama room on Tuesday, September 25th to find out about
it.  See ya there--at lunchtime.

*3. Wassup Berkeley High!  Are you interested in learning about your
own history?  Do you want to understand and know your rights? Come
through to Youth Together meetings every Thursday after school in room
C224.  There's gonna be good people, good food, and good times.

*1. If you are interested in playing Men's rugby, come to A204 today
at lunch for a film information session.

2. Boys water polo practices 3:30 - 5:30, Mon-Friday; Girls Water polo
practices 5:00 - 7:00 pm.

3. Come join Berkeley Women's Rugby.  Everybody is welcome.  No
experience necessary !!  Snacks provided - See you there!

2.  FREE SAT TEST PREP CLASSES- People's test Preparation Service is
offering free SAT prep classes.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
in room G302 for 10 weeks.  (First class was Wednesday, Sept. 19.) No
registration is necessary.

3. Juniors and Seniors: Military "opt out" forms are available in the
front office.  Please fill out this form if you do not want your name,
address, or phone number disclosed to the military.  If you already
have done so at this year's assembly, there is no need to do this
again.

4. Scholarships- Sinkler Miller Medical Association scholarship- open
to seniors who are SF Bay Area residents with a minimum cumulative GPA
of 3.0 who have financial need.  12 scholarships of $1,000 - $1,500
will be awarded.  Deadline: September 20.  Applications available in
D221.

5. Good Tidings Community Service Scholarship - open to seniors who
live in the SF Bay Area, have participated in community service and
have financial need.  Scholarships range from $2,500 to $5,000.  .
Deadline is November 9th. Applications available in D221.

6. Ron Brown Scholarship Program - open to black or African American
seniors who have shown leadership, commitment to public service and a
desire to make a difference, have financial need and are a US citizen
or permanent resident. Scholarship is for $10,000 per year for four
years.  The deadline is November 1 to be eligible for other
scholarships through the Ron Brown program or January 9, 2008 for the
Ron Brown Scholarship only.  Applications available in D221.


Events/Performances

1.  Zoo Careers Night, Friday, September 21, 5:30-9:30 p.m. at the
Oakland Zoo.  Find out firsthand what working in a zoo is like and
find out how you can get there yourself.  The program is designed for
teenagers (ages 12-19). Adults may attend, but only to accompany or
chaperone their teens.  A chaperone is not required for teens to
attend.  Cost: $15 teenagers; $7 adults;  For more information,

2.  It's a new school year and that means Spirit Week is coming up!
If you are interested in dancing, or choreographing a dance for

JOBS

1. Berkeley Public Library is hiring 8 student workers for our
community service internships.  These jobs involve assisting Teen
Service librarians in a variety of tasks and working with library
materials. Our emphasis this year is on community service.  Contact

2. Student workers needed- Work at Berkeley Natural Food Store.  For
more information, please contact 510-526-2456.

3. King Middle School After school ELL Tutorial is looking for Spanish
bilingual tutors who can work from 3-4, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday,
and from 2:15-3:15 on Wednesday.  We'll also hire monolingual English
speaking tutors who want to patiently work with middle school
students. You must be good in Pre-Algebra and Algebra and/or Science.
You must be in the 11th or 12th grade and able to get to King in time!
Pay-$9.00/hour.  Come by the Science Building, room 7 and ask for
Patricia Rathwell or Akemi Hamai, or call 644-4811.

4.  Albany Physical Therapy has an opening for a student to work 15-18
hours per week (approximately 3 hours per day, Monday-Friday).  The
student is responsible for filing, faxing, copying, laundry,
straightening up treatment rooms and other miscellaneous jobs.

5.  City of El Cerrito has immediate openings for jobs working with
all ages of children in a variety of recreation settings.  Students
must be at least 16 years old.  Flexible scheduling around school
schedules.  Pay $10.25 - $14.86 per hour depending on experience.

6. Looking for someone to do yard work.  Starting at $10 /hour.  2-5
