STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
September 5, 2007

Administration

*1. There is no late start-today.  School begins at the regular time:
8:30 am.

2. Students and Staff- Make-up photo IDs will take place September 5
and September 18.  The times for both dates are 2:30-5:30 p.m.  Don't
miss these dates!  Look for the portable between the gym and the G
building.

*3. Mathworks needs you!  Got community service, tutoring credits and
be a leader.  Come tutor at Willard, Tuesdays 3-4:30pm, starting
October 1.  Contact Mark Lee at Willardmathworks at gmail.com.

4. The Berkeley High Student Court is accepting students for the
program.  You will be trained by UC Berkeley law students and will
work on real discipline cases involving students here at Berkeley
High.  Students can earn 5 leadership credits, develop essential
skills, and make an impact on the life of others by participating in
this program.  Interested individuals can learn more by talking to Mr.
Luu in H104.

*5. Algebra I and Geometry I math tutorial begins Tuesday, September
11th, and get an early start with Math on Tuesdays and Thursdays from
3:15 -4:30 pm in room H109.  Don't wait!

6. Pick up your books with your class or at lunch and after school.

7. Students must report to their classes until a COURSE CHANGE is sent
to them by the COUNSELOR.  Please do not go to the counseling office
and wait.  All new schedules will be delivered to you throughout the
day.  If you are not in class, we will not be able to give you the
correct changes.

8. If anyone would like to submit an item to the student daily
bulletin, please see Belinda McDaniel in the Administration office.
All forms must be approved.


Clubs

1. Do you like movies?  Have you ever wanted to Star in a movie?
Direct a movie? Write a movie? Perform a stunt in a movie?  Come to
Cinematography Club.  We meet on Wednesdays at lunch in room G208.
And as Albert Camus once said, "One Must imagine Sisyphus happy."

2. Please re-register your club for the 07-08 school year.  Any
previous registration forms are void. You get the form at the Student
Activities office.

*3. Go to France for 9 days!  Meet new people and see new places.  For
more information to room C102 at lunch this Thursday or Friday.  Once
again, that's room C102 at lunch this Thursday or Friday for more
information on how you can escape to France.

4. To all students currently enrolled for the Jacket newspaper, please
report to H102 zero period on Wednesday, September 5th.  If your
schedule says 7th period, please report zero period anyway.  The time
is 7:29 a.m. - 8:24 a.m.  If you are interested in joining the jacket,
please submit a request to your counselor.

5. PASSHEN! (Peers Advocating Safety and Sexual Health education now!)
is recruiting new peer educators for the 2007-2008 school year.  Get
paid and get class credit while educating your BHS peers!  Pick up
applications in
H105 (Health Center).  All applications are due September 13 by 3 p.m.

6. Jazz Ensemble Auditions will be held:
Wednesday: Saxes   (9/5)
Thursday:  Trumpets and Trombones (9/6)
Friday: Rhythm Section   (9/7)
Please report to A201 at 3:30 p.m. for all auditions and see Charles
Hamilton.


Sports

*1. Come see BHS boys first home football game- Thursday at 5pm JV,
Friday at 5pm for Varsity.  Both games played here at BHS against Deer
Valley.

2. Girls Golf is still accepting athletes.  They practice at Tilden on
Monday and Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.  Call Coach Haskell at 415-740-7930
if you're interested.  You must have a complete athletic packet to
work out with the team.

3. Water Polo practice every day after school:  
   Boys: 3:30-5:30 p.m.
   Girls: 5:00-7:00 p.m.

*4. Have you ever wanted to learn to be a sports announcer? Interested
in being the voice above the crowd?  BHS Athletics is looking for
dedicated and mature sports announcers who want to learn by doing it.
Training starts with this week's home football games.  If you're
interested, sign up this week on the Athletics office door and meet in
the turf press box at 3:30 pm on Thursday.

5. Softball- Fall Ball tryouts at Grove St Park 4-6 p.m., September
4-7 p.m.
  Please attend all tryout dates.  Please contact Ron Hunt at
1-800-826-9950.

6. Any boys interested in playing Basketball this school year for
Berkeley High, should report to the OLD gym on the second floor,
September 4th after school 3:30 p.m.  Coach Guinn will have a brief
meeting with those interested.

7. All students interested in running cross country come to practice
at 4:30 p.m at the BHS track or see Coach Goodrich in H307.



Senior / Junior Section

1. SAT/ACT TEST DATES- Monday, September 10 is the regular
registration deadline for the October 6 SAT and SAT subject tests.
Friday, September
21 is the regular registration deadline for the October 27 ACT test.
Fee waivers for low income students are available in D221.

2. Seniors- If you are applying to a private college which needs a
counselor recommendation, your Senior Profiles are due on September
7th, if you are applying Early Decision or Early Action or to any
school which requires a recommendation by November 1 and September
21st for Regular Decision.  You do NOT need to fill these out if you
are applying only to the UC's, Cal State University or community
Colleges.

*3. Scholarships- Sinkler Miller Medical Association scholarship- open
to seniors who are SF Bay Area residents with a minimum cumulative GPA
of 3.0 who have financial need.  12 scholarships of $1,000 - $1,500
will be awarded.  Deadline: September 20.  Applications available in
D221.

*4. Good tidings Community Service Scholarship-open to seniors who
live in the SF Bay Area, have participated in community service and
have financial need.  Scholarships range from $2,500 to $5,000.
Deadline is November 9.. Applications available in D221.

*5. Ron Brown scholarship Program - open top black or African American
seniors who have shown leadership, commitment to public service and a
desire to make a difference, have financial need and a US citizen or
permanent resident. Scholarship is for $10,000 per year for four
years.  The deadline is November 1 to be eligible for other
scholarships through the Ron Brown program or January 9, 2008 for the
Ron Brown Scholarship only.  Applications available in D221.


Events / Performances

*1.  Solano Stroll- Funky bus and the U-turns will be performing at
the Solano Stroll, Sunday, September 8th.  2pm- Funky bus and the
U-turns 4pm - Berkeley High School Jazz Combo.
