STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
June 1, 2007


Administration

1. Graduation tickets will be available today, June 1st in D173. We
apologize for the delay.  Tickets are $5 each.

*2. Attention!  Yearbook distribution has been delayed!  Due to unforeseen
circumstances yearbook distribution will now begin on Monday, June 4th.
Seniors only with valid ID and a yearbook receipt may pick up their
yearbook after school on the community theater steps.  All others may pick
them up beginning Tuesday, June 5th after school.  You must have ID and
the receipt.

*3. Calling all sophomores in SSJE, AHA, CAS, and CPA. Apply for the Public
School Multi-Cultural Youth Leadership Institute!  This week long program
will address issues of race, class, diversity, and multi-culturalism and
will take place in mid August..and it's FREE!  Its going to be an amazing
leadership opportunity and will be great for you to put on your college
applications or resumes.  The deadline has been extended to next Friday,
June 8th.  Pick up and return applications to Mr. Cagan in A105.

4. Urgent message to all students planning on taking AP Spanish Literature
next year: You are required to attend one, 20 minute informational meeting
this week.  Please come to C125 today during lunch this week.  Gracias!

5.  Parents:  If you are planning your summer vacations, remember
these dates:
School begins August 29, 2007 for the new fall school year.
Freshman orientation: Tuesday, August 21, 2007
Sophomore orientation: Wednesday, August 22, 2007
Junior orientation: Thursday, August 23, 2007
Senior orientation: Friday, August 24, 2007

6. Are you interested in affecting the health of our community?  Want to
explore a career in health, education, or counseling?  Would you like to
earn college credit while in high school, and add a practical internship
to your resume? Berkeley City College is offering a two-semester class
just for you!  Health Ed 1,  "Exploring Health Issues" will examine the
major health problems that affect our community, with a focus on how
health education can empower people affected by those health issues.  Next
semester, a Health issues field studies class will send you in a team to
become a health mentor in the after-school programs at local elementary
and middle schools or a homeless family shelter.  Sign up now by enrolling
in Berkeley City College and filling out the concurrent enrollment form
for Health Education 1.  Your counselor has the forms and information.

7. Seniors!  Overdue books?  Any overdue books must be turned in
immediately.  You will not be able to pick up your Prom tickets if you do
not return the books.  This is an urgent matter if you plan on going to
the senior ball.

8. MathWorks Coordinators needed at Willard Middle School.This will
satisfy community service, tutoring hours, leadership and provide
recommendations.

Clubs

1. Attention CSF Sealbearers: Cords and Tassels for you to wear at
graduation are now available at Edna Harris' desk in the College/Career
center.  Pick yours up today!

*2. CSF Participants: Don't forget that $15 of fundraising and 3 hours of
community service are due by Wednesday, June 6th in the College/Career
Center.

*3. All newly elected leadership officers and current leadership officers
must attend the Student Government meeting, Tuesday, June 6th after school
in G210.  We will have a short training in preparation for next year.


Sports

*1. Congratulations to the following athletes who qualified to compete this
Friday and Saturday in the State track meet at Sacramento City College:

                                      Erin Johnson

2. The popular student athlete luncheon is coming next week!  The Berkeley
Athletic Fund sponsored lunch for all athletes who earned a 3.5 or better
during his or her season or whose GPA improved by .5 or better during the
season, will be awarded a free Barbeque Club lunch.  Check the posters
located in the pool windows next week for your name and the time and
location and the lunch is on us!

3. Summer Twilight Basketball League:  MLK Jr Youth Center June 22,
2007- September 1, 2007

Senior / Junior Section

1. Seniors-Acheivers will be here to distribute cap and gowns this Friday
after school.  They will also be here June 5th and 7th so make sure you get
your cap and gown!

2. Seniors- Canon Jones Memorial Scholarship- students must have been
in either the Berkeley Boosters/Police Activities league, CAS at
Berkeley High or a member of the Southside Church of Christ in
Richmond and accepted at a four year college or university.  Two
scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded and are renewable.
Recommendations and essays required.  Applications available in D221.
Deadline: June 22.

3. June 1 - Last day for students to turn in a Transcript Request Form
to Ms. Mellion in D173 so that we can send an official transcript to
the school you will be attending in the fall.  Write "FINAL
TRANSCRIPT" in capital letters across the top of the form and paper
clip it to a stamped business size envelope addressed to the college,
with Berkeley High School (1980 Allston Way, Berkeley 94704) as the
return address.  If you are under 18, please remember to have your
parent or guardian sign the request form.  All colleges require that
students send them a final transcript confirming their senior year
grades.

4. For Juniors- if you haven't yet signed up for an appointment with
your College Advisor, it's not too late!  There are now many
appointment slots available.  Come to the college/Career Center to
sign up.  If your last name begins with A-La, sign up with Ms. Abrams,
for Le- Z, sign up with Mr. Saraceno. We both also have shorter
drop-in appointments every day at lunch and after school for all
juniors and seniors.

5. Thinking of applying to a UC campus?  The new Introducing the
University is now available in the College/Career center.  This
information packed booklet is a great resource on each UC campus,
including majors and admissions, as well as the UC system as a whole.
Don't forget to pick yours up!



Events/ Performance

1. Students bring all your extra books for a book drive.  Your
contributions will go to prisoners who desperately need books.  Book
collection boxes will be in classrooms, or can be directly given to Laura
Peper or Samantha Cook.

2. "SCHOOLGIRL FIGURE: Nothing tastes as good as thin feels."  Welcome to
a high school where the in crowd is the thin crowd, where anorexic Renee
and her bulimic best friend  Patty are determined to take their bodies
back to their perfect pre-pubescent contours.  Schoolgirl Figure is a
bitter black comedy that's sick, perverse, irreverent and hilarious.
Independently produced and performed by Berkeley High School students.
Proceeds will benefit the Eating Disorders Program at the Lucille Packard
Children's Hospital at Stanford University.  Thursday, May 31, Friday,
June 1, Saturday June 2.  Doors open at 7:30, shows start at 8 pm.  Live

Jobs

1. "Roughing It" Day Camp in Lafayette is looking for junior counselors
(students entering grades 11 or 12 in the fall) for volunteer
positions as well as paid positions for graduating seniors.
Transportation is provided.  All staff will be trained during week of
June 18-23.  Session 1: June 25-July 20; Session 2: July 23-August 17.

students working with children of all ages in various recreation
settings - summer and year round employment available.  Applicants
