STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

*1. No school on Friday, May 18th in honor of the Malcolm X birthday
holiday.
Students return to school on Monday, May 21st.

*2. Would you like to speak or perform at the 2007 Graduation?  Sign up
today with Belinda McDaniel in the Administration Office.

3. Berkeley High Students:  Are you interested in becoming an educator?
Berkeley City College is offering a class here at BHS that teaches and
examines the fundamentals of education.  10 High School units and three UC
transferable can be earned by taking Ed 1: Intro to the Field of
Education.  Ask your Social Studies teacher or your counselor for more
information.

4. Would you like to be an announcer for the student daily bulletin
next school year?  If so, tryouts will take place, Wednesday, May 30th
at 7:30 am on the football field.  Please wear gym clothes for this
audition.  We will explain when you arrive.

5. Join Berkeley High students and community activists for the
program "Young People United: Resisting War, Resisting Violence,"
Thursday, May 17th.  Free dinner for youth at 6 pm, program begins at
7 pm.  Everyone welcome.  $5 - 20 donation requested of adults, free

6. Summer School applications are available in the Counseling Office
and at the Parent Volunteer Desk in the Administration office.
Priority Registration ends May 25.  Please see your counselor and sign
up ASAP.

7. Do you or someone you know need a prom dress?  Stop by D148 and
cone take a look.  Dresses from Biscotti are available.


Clubs

1. Are you interested in being on the BHS Dance Team?  Open auditions will
be held on May 23rd in the dance room.  Stop by D148 for more information?

2. Attention Berkeley High!  The student court is recruiting for next
year.  If you or someone you know, would be a great student court
advocate, come to H104 and pick up an application from David Luu.
Student court is a great way for students to get involved in the
community while building leadership skills and getting credits.


Sports

1. Congratulations to the Girls Softball team on a fabulous season
thus far.  They are currently tied for first with Alameda in the ACCAL
and headed for their second straight appearance in the NCS
Championships.  They play the next three games on the road and, if
they win all of them, will likely play a league playoff game on
Saturday, May 19th at Alameda.  Stay tuned for great reports on the
Girls Softball Team!

Senior / Junior Section

  1. Seniors, have you ordered your cap and gown?  Acheivers will be here
Thursday, May 17, 2007 so if you have not ordered your cap and gown yet
you may do so this Thursday!  For those of who have ordered your cap and
gown, distribution will begin at 3:30 on May 22nd in the Community Theater
Lobby.  Distribution is by last name:
May 22nd  last names beginning with A-H
May 23rd  last names beginning with I-P.
May 24th  last names beginning with Q-Z.
Any questions go by the leadership office in D148.

2. June 1 - Last day for students to turn in a Transcript Request Form to
Ms. Mellion in D173 so that we can send an official transcript to the
school you will be attending in the fall.  Write "FINAL TRANSCRIPT" in
capital letters across the top of the form and paper clip it to a stamped
business size envelope addressed to the college, with Berkeley High School
(1980 Allston Way, Berkeley 94704) as the return address.  If you are
under 18, please remember to have your parent or guardian sign the request
form.  All colleges require that students send them a final transcript
confirming their senior year grades.

3. For Juniors- if you haven't yet signed up for an appointment with your
College Advisor, it's not too late!  There are now many appointment slots
available.  Come to the college/Career Center to sign up.  If your last
name begins with A-La, sign up with Ms. Abrams, for Le- Z, sign up with
Mr. Saraceno. We both also have shorter drop-in appointments every day at
lunch and after school for all juniors and seniors.

4.  Are you planning to attend UC Berkeley next year?  If so, then apply
for the Fullwood Scholarship. Four students from Berkeley High School will
each be awarded a $2,000 scholarship.  Applications are available from Ms.
Harris in D221.  No essay necessary.  Priority is given to students who
have financial need.  Deadline: May 17.


Events/ Performance

*1. Afro- Haitian Spring Dance Concert- Thursday, May 17 7:30 pm at the
Berkeley Community Theater.  Gen. Adm. $7, Student w/ ID $5, and Seniors
and children under 10 years old $3.  Special guest- Chinyakare Youth
Ensemble.

*2. Great Dance Shows this week and next!  After going to the Afro- Haitian
Show on Thursday night, be sure to come back and see the Dance Production/
Choreographers class in their spring concert this Friday and Saturday, May
18 and 19 in the Little Theater. The show starts at 8 pm.  Get there early
for tickets; students and seniors $5/ adults $10.  Then come back out next
Thursday and Friday.  May 24 and 25 for Dance Projects- featuring live
musical accompaniment by some of the best BHS musicians.

3. Jazz on 4th street, Sunday, May 20th, 2007.  The 11th Annual
Festival takes place from noon - 5:00 pm on fourth street in Berkeley
between Hearst and Virginia.  This free outdoor music festival
benefits the Berkeley High Performing Arts and award winning BHS Jazz
Ensemble and Combos.  The music on 2 stages starts with the BHS
combos, followed by the classic jazz sounds of Marcus Shelby,
legendary R and B from Sugar Pie DeSanto, Latin jazz Ensemble.  Join
us for a wonderful afternoon of fun, food and music.

Sales

1. Yearbooks are going fast, get yours now! Beginning May 8th
yearbooks will be on sale during lunch, Tuesday - Thursdays on the
Community Theater steps until the end of the month cost is $80.

Jobs

1. Recreation jobs- the City of El Cerrito has immediate openings for
students working with children of all ages in various recreation
settings- summer and year round employment available.  Applicants must
be at least 16 years old.  Apply at the El Cerrito Community Center,
7007 Moeser Lane, El Cerrito 94530 or email resume to Cori Diaz at [
