STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration
*1. Grand opening of our Yellowjacket Shack, which will remain open
through the rest of the year. Lunch at the shack will include BBQ
wings and Sloppy Joes, and other veggie options. Please come out and
try something new and tasty.
*2. Next Wednesday, March 14th and Thursday, March 15th in C219
promptly at 3:30 pm there will be a student-led session about AP
classes. Come hear from students like Kara Murray and Amelia Starr
about their experiences in AP Classes to see if you are interested for
next year.
*3. Celebrate Black History Month by learning more about American
history. Catch up this week by answering the 5 questions related to
African Americans. Come to the library to find the answers and finish
filling out your answer sheet. Students who get all weekly questions
right will get a prize!
4. We just received the results from the American Math Competition.
Forty-one BHS students participated and all did well. The top scorers
on the Grade test were Marin Balarin, Connie Chan, Anthony Granados,
David Levine, and Kyley McBard. The top scorers on the 10th grade
test were Scott Johnston, Rebecca Lau, Robert Luan, Matthew Olson, and
Kevin O'Neill. David Levine had the highest score on the 12th grade
test and Kevin O'Neill had the top score on the 10th grade test.
David, Kevin, Robert Luan, and Scott Johnston were all invited to take
the American Invitational Math Exam in March. Please see Mr.
Bloomsburgh in H306 if you would like to know your score.
Congratulations to all.
4. Interested in taking AP Biology next year? There will be a
mandatory meeting for all students who want to take AP Bio in room
G212 on Thursday and Friday, March 8th and 9th. If you want to take
AP Bio show up at the start of lunch for one of these twenty-minute
meetings.
5. Heads up students! Finding tutoring help is a sign of motivation,
maturity, resourcefulness and determination. These are qualities a
college or employer is seeking. Don't wait!
Algebra I and Geometry Tutoring Emphasis: Tues and Thurs

AP Biology tutoring is in room G305 from 4:30- 5:30 PM.
The March tutoring schedule is Wednesday, March 7 and Thursday, March
15.
No tutoring the week of March 19th and March28th.
6. City of Berkeley Youthworks will hand out applications for the 2007
Summer Session. Applications will be available March 5th-March 30th.
Completed applications must be returned by March 30th to be
considered. Berkeley residents ages 14-21 can apply at 1947 Center St
(basement level) or call 981-4970.
Clubs
*1. What's up Berkeley high! Youth Together is having a meeting on
Thursday at 3:30 pm in A205. If you are looking for a youth group
who's fighting for social justice then you should come check out Youth
Together. We are planning our Cesar Chavez Awareness Day and our
Unity Week. Don't forget--Thursday 3:30 pm in A205.
*2. Hey Photographers: Come this Thursday at lunch. You will be able
to have and get help with your photos, and there may be field trips
eventually. The meeting is H103 at lunch on Thursday the 8th. There
will be snacks.
*3. Immigrant Rights Day will be one day of unity week in April. Come
help us plan what should happen on Immigrant Rights Day! We need
volunteers to talk about their experiences as newcomers.
Sports
*1. The girls' basketball team plays tonight, Thursday, at 7:00 pm
here at the Donahue Gym. The winner advances to Saturday at 7:00 pm
for the Nor Cal finals. Tickets are $9 adults/ $5 students. No
passes are accepted at the tournament. You can download the
tournament at www.cifstate.org.
*2. Lacrosse game tonight!! Come support the jackets.
3. Varsity soccer players please wash and return your equipment as
soon as possible to Coach Juarez in C127. Pick up your t-shirts from
Coach Juarez in C127.
*4. All soccer players: the soccer awards ceremony will take place in
the Food Court on Monday, March 12th at 6:30 PM. Please clear your
schedules so you can come pick up your trophies, medals, letters, and
photographs.
Senior / Junior Section
1. Seniors: The Young Conservatory at American Conservatory Theater is
offering a special scholarship for high school seniors in Alameda
County to attend classes offered in the Spring session (March 19 - May
26, after school and weekend schedule) and their 4-week Summer Session
(daytime classes June 18 - July 13). The spring class schedule and
scholarship application is available in D221.
2. Latino and Native American Association (LANA) - open to high school
seniors of Latino or Native American descent with a minimum 2.0 GPA.
Deadline: April 2. $500 scholarship.
3. Anita Baskerville Harris Scholarship Award - open to graduating
African-American females with a minimum GPA of 3.0 with financial
need. Essay required. Deadline: April 2. Scholarships range from
$500 to $2,000.
4. College visits to Berkeley High- Seniors: Sign up in D221 to attend
college presentations. You must also pick up an authorization form for
your teacher to sign so that you may miss his or her class.

Events/ Performance
*1. Are you a talented young woman? Would you be interested in
displaying your talents during International Women's Day celebration?
Come by D148 during lunch and after school.
2. It's ITPs time! Come see three one act plays independently produced
by Berkeley High students, featuring "Asphyxiation," "Girl Talk,"
and "Perry in His Underwear." Again, 8 PM at the Hillside Club in
Berkeley, March 2, 3 ,9 and 10. Only $5 for students ($10 for
others).
3. Have you ever pictured yourself on the big screen? Are you waiting
for your big break? Then come to room C400 on March 8th, between 3:30
and 6:00 for a role in one of four student films. Signups are posted
on the door of Room C400. Walk-ins welcome, free snacks.
*4. Ever thought about working backstage? Do you like painting,
building things, or flipping switches? Come to an informational
meeting about technical theater for HAIR, the spring musical! Meet
today, March 8th at lunch in A203, Mr. Winer's room.
Sales
1. Jr. Prom tickets will be available on the community theatre steps
during lunch and in the box office after school. ($55) if you are
interested in being Jr Prom King please stop by D148.
2. Prices are $80.00 for yearbooks. Please purchase your yearbooks in
H102 each day. Financial Assistance is also available to those who
qualify see Mr. Knight during 7th in H102 to apply.
3. Class of 2007- Senior spellout pictures are still available. $5
each. Come to D148 and pick up one.
