STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

*1. The MORP, or backwards prom, is coming March 9th!  So everyone
come out for more of a reason to party with the NHT Boyz.  Presale
tickets on sale now for $7, and $10 at the door.  Student ID required.
All BHS students are welcome to attend.

*2. There are going to be Berkeley High Student Court trials next week
on Monday the 26th and Wednesday the 28th.  All Berkeley High Students
are encouraged to attend.  They take place at 5:30 pm in the Old City
Hall building across the street from MLK Park on the second floor.  We
need student jurors to participate in the trials.  Come through if
you're interested.

3. Celebrate Black History Month by learning more about American
history.  In what year did President Lincoln sign the Emancipation
Proclamation?  Come to the library to find the answer and then fill
out an answer sheet.  Students who get all weekly questions right will
get a prize at the end of the month.

*4. Looking for a job?  Must be a tenth grader with a GPA of 2.5 or
better; See Belinda McDaniel for more details and a job application.  

5. Are you interested in work with the US Postal Service?  Stop by
D148 for more information.

6. Do you like making easy money?  Local painting business is looking
for marketers.  No experience necessary, will train.  Average pay is
$10-$12/ hr.  Call 510-384-0563 for more information.


Clubs

1. Attention all chess players!!  Please come to our club meeting this
Thursday in C125 after school from 3:30 to 4:45.  Afterwards we will
need volunteers to help with our Open House fundraiser that evening.
Pizza will be provided!  Also, everyone interested in competing at the
State Championships in April must sign up with Senor Lobo.  Go
Jackets!

2. All BBQ club members, we have a meeting today at lunch in Ms.
Tebbe's room to discuss club matters.  It will be short, so be on
time.  Also lunch is after third period today.

3. Earphone English - need to check in?  Need a new audiobook?   Come
by at lunch today in C116.

4. The Community Partnerships Academy (CPA) Small School needs your
help.  We are looking for donations of SAT prep materials.  SAT Study
Guides are particularly welcomed.  Please bring them to H202 anytime.

5. BHS students! Are you in a band?  Do you want an opportunity to
show your talent?  Come by room D148 for more details.

6. The HAIR cast list is posted on the theater bulletin board on the
first floor of the A-building. 

7. The crossword puzzle is no longer going to appear in the Jacket! An
enormous vacancy is going to open on the Front page!  The crossword
puzzle in the February edition will be the last one ever!  The Jacket
desperately needs something in its place.  Please go to G105 with
ideas or suggestions.


Sports

*1. Athletes in the 10th and 11th grades: On Monday, February 26th at
3:30 pm in the Little Theater a presenter will come to talk about the
NCAA Clearinghouse.  All 10th and 11th graders who wish to play
college athletics should come to this presentation.  Parents are
invited.

*2. Congratulations to the boys basketball team; they defeated #10
College Park on Tuesday night and advance to the second round of the
NCS Division I tournament.  They face #2 Foothill High School in the
Donahue Gym at 8:00 this Friday.  The BHS girls face #8 Foothill at
6:30 pm.  Put on your red and gold, and check out this great NCS
Basketball double header!  Tickets are $8 adult and $5 student/senior.

3. Congratulations to Senior Paul Navo for winning the Bay Shore
Athletic League Wrestling Championship at 130 pounds.  Paul pinned his
opponent in the finals in 18 seconds.  Senior Mirko Jurcan and
Sophomore Koji Jagust also represented Berkeley in the finals taking
home silver medals.  Paul, Mirko, ands Koji will be competing in the
North Coast Section Championships this Friday and Saturday at Newark
Memorial High School.  Good luck wrestlers!


Senior / Junior Section 

*1. African American Education summit: Saturday, February 24, Cal
State East Bay, University Union.  Registration begins at 8:00 am,
workshop session from 9:00 to 3:00.  Special guest is Sara Sidner from
KTVU Channel 2.  College Admissions and financial aid and scholarship
information. Lunch provided.  RSVP at 510-885-2572.

*2. Seniors!  Do you want your own page in the yearbook?!  Go order
one today in H102 after school with the yearbook crew.  Fill up pages
with pics of you, your friends or your family.  Single pages are $125
and double page spreads are $250.  Go order spots today, because they
are limited.

*3. Seniors: The Young Conservatory at American Conservatory Theater
is offering a special scholarship for high school seniors in Alameda
County to attend classes offered in the Spring session (March 19 - May
26, after school and weekend schedule) and their 4-week Summer Session
(daytime classes June 18 - July 13).  The spring class schedule and
scholarship application is available in D221.

*4. Scholarships - Wa Sung Community Service Club Merit Scholarship -
applicant must be a graduating senior of Asian descent residing in
Alameda or Contra Costa County who will be attending college in fall
2007. Seven to ten scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded.

*5. SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES - Americans for Informed Democracy offers a
two-week summer enrichment program for rising juniors and seniors in
high school interested in international relations.  Called Global
Scholar, the program is held at Washington and Lee University in
Lexington, Virginia from July 1-14, 2007.  Global Scholar is a college
prep and leadership development program that builds global competence.
Students hear from global leaders and delve into a World Affairs
curriculum modeled on a college level course.  They will also have the
chance to videoconference with their peers halfway around the world,
visit leading global institutions, journey to foreign countries
through film and devise global campaigns to respond to today's most
pressing global challenges.  Cost $1,600.  Several full and half

6. Seniors!  Put your UC essays to work while you wait to hear from
colleges.  Last year the College and Career Center published a
collection of College Admission Essays (in a book called True
Admissions) as a fund raiser to help future BHS students.  We have
earned close to $7,000 and are now working on a second edition of the
book.  This time we want to put more emphasis on the complete UC
package (three questions, 1,000 words).  Please consider submitting
your essays for consideration.  We need your essays NOW but the book
will not come out until long after you hear from colleges.  Think of

7. Seniors - if you applied to San Jose State and haven't done so
already, you must turn in a Transcript Request Form to Ms. Mellion in
D173, along with a stamped envelope addressed to San Jose State, so
that she can send your first semester grades to the school.  They have
just initiated this requirement.

8. SENIORS- City College of San Francisco is now accepting
applications for their Culinary Arts ND Hospitality Management
Program.  This is an excellent two year program in which students earn
an Associate of Science Degree and an Award of Achievement in Culinary
Arts, Food Service Management or Hotel Management.  Graduates of this
program have transferred to many different four year colleges to earn
a bachelors degree.  Additional information is available in the
College Career Center and at www.ccsf.edu/cahs or by calling
415-239-3152.  Application deadline is April 9th.

9. FAFSA workshops, please sign up in D221 to attend.  Then you can
fill out the requested information and know what your questions are.

Events/ Performance

*1. JUNIOR PROM - Jr. Prom tickets will be available until March 2nd
during lunch and after school.  Early bird price $45.00.  Reminder:
Prom date is April 21st, at the Bayside Pavillion in Alameda.

*2. Class of 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, the MORP or backwards PROM is
almost here!  Presale tickets available form $7.00 in the box office
during lunch and after school.


Sales

1. Prices are $80.00 for yearbooks. Please purchase your yearbooks in
H102 each day. Financial Assistance is also available to those who
qualify see Mr. Knight during 7th in H102 to apply.

2. Class of 2007 - Senior spellout pictures are still available.  $5
each.  Come to D148 and pick up one.
