Substance Use or Abuse Group Update!  

Looking at Your Substance Use, a confidential therapy group for teens
at Berkeley High will be beginning at the end of February.  The goals
of the group are for students to better understand their motivations
and the triggers for drug/alcohol use, develop a repertoire of coping
strategies, discover alternative ways to get "high" and manage stress.


When:  6th Period, Mondays 
        First meeting: February 26th 
The group will run for 8 weeks 
  
We are accepting parent referrals!  To sign your child up for this
group, call 644-4802 and leave a message for Abbie.  While discussion
in this group will be kept confidential, attendance can be verified,
upon request. 

Students will be responsible for making up any work they miss for
their class, and are encouraged to speak with their teachers if they
need extra support in this process. 

We will be accepting students on a first come, first serve basis.  
Space is limited, so sign up soon! 

Facilitators:  
Sally Cohen, LMFT is in private practice in Berkeley.  She has been
leading groups and doing individual therapy with adolescents for over
20 years.  She has worked throughout high schools in the Bay Area and
provided ongoing consultation to graduate students.  

Sarah McCarthy, MSW intern is a second year student at SFSU.  She
works at BHS and B-Tech as an individual counselor.
