STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
February 7, 2007

Administration
1. Late Start Wednesday - 10th grade students must still report to the
Old gym at 7:30 am for the Exit Exam. All other students report to
school at 10:00 am.
2. Attention students and staff: Please check for lost items in the
Parent Center room D224 at lunchtime on Friday for any item you might
have lost. Because of health reasons all sneakers and caps will be
discarded as well as soiled clothing.
3. Exit Exam - We will administer the California High School Exit Exam
(CAHSEE) today, February 7th to all tenth graders. They must pass
this two-day test in order to graduate from high school in California.
Students must arrive in the Old Gym on Milvia street at 7:30 am.
There will be signs telling them where to go and several volunteers to
help assist them. The food court will stay open an hour longer so
that students may eat lunch. The make up test will take place on
March 21 and March 22. See Amy Frey for questions.
4. ID Cards are $5 pictures will be taken on Monday, Wednesday and
Thursday lunchtime or after school 3:15- 3:45 pm . All BHS students
need an ID Card. We will only print copies for special circumstances.
Clubs
1. Earphone English - first meeting of the year at lunch on Wednesday
in C116. Francisca will be there!
*2. Attention CSF Participants: Applications and Community service
logs for the Spring semester are now available in the SLC, D221.
Completed applications and $1 membership dues are due on Tuesday,
February 20th. 3 hours of community service and $15 of fundraising
are due on June 6th. Cash only please. If you have any questions,
contact CSF President Natalie Gaber at nataliegaber at comcast.net
3. Condom club! Brought to you by PASSHEN: Peers advocating safety
and sexual Health education now! Come learn the facts about HIV,
STDs, and how to be safe Wednesday, February 7th during lunch in H114.
You must attend the entire time to get a condom club sticker on your
ID. Bring your lunch and your ID, and don't be late.
*4. Come to French Club every Friday at lunch in Room C102. Everyone
is welcome to come and have a great time at French Club! Once again,
French Club is held every Friday at lunch in room C102! Don't forget
to come!
*5. A wise man once said "...The foundation of every state is the
education of its youth." How is it that education has in impact on
the state? What purposes does education serve in our society? What
is the history of the educational system? How what has was learned in
the past created the world that we live in today? If you want the
answers to these questions, or want to learn more about the
philosophy, sociology, psychology, and economics of education today,
ENROLL IN ED: 97. Go to 112 after school to find out more.
6. There will be an Academic Choice Leadership meeting this Wednesday,
February 7, at lunch in C213, Mr. Carton's room. All member and
anyone who is interested please attend!
Sports
1. Attention all football athletes: Meet Coach Carter in the weight
room on Thursday at 3:30 pm.
2. Berkeley will be hosting the Bay Bridge Classic wrestling
tournament this Saturday, February 10th in the Donahue Gym.
Competition begins at 9:30 am. Everyone is welcome to come watch and
support the Berkeley Wrestling Team. If you are interested in
learning more about wrestling or volunteering at the Tournament please
see Kristin Glenchur.
3. Congratulations to the following wrestlers for placing at the 12th
Annual Oakland Winter Classic Wrestling Tournament last Saturday:
Senior Paul Navo placed 1st at 130 pounds; Senior Mirko Jurcan placed
4th at 125 pounds; Sophomore Koji Jagust placed 6th at 130 pounds.
4. Come out and support the boys' soccer team this week as they play
their last ACCAL home game for the year. On Thursday, they will take
on El Cerrito for their final ACCAL home match of the year. Kick off
is at 5:30! See you at the game!
Senior / Junior Section
1. Juniors- FREE SAT prep class will be held at Berkeley high on
Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 pm in H206 for 10 weeks. The
first class will be held on Wednesday, February 7. No sign up is
necessary. Bring a calculator and pencils to the first class. For
more information, see Ms. Abrams in D221.
2. Scholarship for Juniors- Nordstrom Scholarship applications are
available in D221. The scholarship is open to Juniors with an
unweighted GPA of at least 2.7 and who have financial need to go to
college. The student must attend an accredited college-level
institution for four years. The scholarship is for $10,000 and will
be paid over four years in installments of $2,500. Deadline: May 31.
*3. For all students - are you interested in studying abroad during
the summer or for a semester? Intrax Study Abroad offers 45 cultural
programs in 17 different countries. Come to the presentation on
Tuesday, February 13 at lunchtime in conference room A. For more

*4. For sophomores - Are you interested in a full time leadership
program this Summer and part-time in the Fall, including an
internship? Come to a meeting on Monday, February 12 in Conference
room B with representatives of Coro Center for Civic Leadership to get
more information. All participants in the summer program are paid a

*5. For seniors - College Visit: Expression Center for New Media -
this is an excellent college if you are interested in sound arts,
animation and visual effects, motion and graphic design or game art
and design. Presentation on Tuesday, February 13 at 10:35 (3rd
period) in D221. Sign up to attend.
*6. Berkeley Retired Teachers Association Scholarship - open to
Berkeley High seniors who have spent the majority of their school age
years in Berkeley Unified School District. Scholarship amounts vary,
deadline: March 30. Applications available in D221.
7. Seniors: Financial Aid Workshops - please sign up in D221 to
attend. Then you can fill out the requested information and know what
your questions are. The dates for the workshops are:

8. Tuesday, February 13- Cash for College workshop will held at 6:30
pm in the BHS Library. A workshop will be held at 6:30 pm in the BHS
Library. At the workshop, held in both English and Spanish, you will
be able to get help filling out the FAFSA. One participant in the
workshop who completes the FAFSA and the Cal Grant form by March 2
will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship. For additional cash for College
workshops at other locations and dates go to www.calgrants.org and
click on the "Workshops" tab.
9. Alpha Kappa Alpha- Open to African and African American seniors
with a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5 who have recent community
involvement and plans to attend a two or four year college immediately
after graduation. Applications available in D221. $1,000 scholarship.
Deadline: April 30.
Events/ Performance
1. Celebrate Black History Month by learning more about American
History. Who was the first African American Supreme Court justice?
Come to the library to find the answer and then fill out an answer
sheet. Students who get all weekly questions right will get a prize
at the end of the month.
*2. Vagina. Vagina. Vagina. Be there! The uncensored, explicit and
controversial Vagina Monologues are here, this Friday and Saturday at
8 pm. $6 students, $11 adults - all proceeds go toward ending
violence against woman in our community.
SALES
1. If your club wants a page in the yearbook, come to H102 during 7th
period to claim your page. Quarter, half, and full pages are being
sold. Please come as soon as possible. They're going fast!
2. Prices are $80.00 for yearbooks. Please purchase your yearbooks in
H102 each day. Financial Assistance is also available to those who
qualify see Mr. Knight during 7th in H102 to apply.
