A Tribute to BUSD Music Teacher Charles Hamilton

What am I talking about? It's a surprise.

Some of us are planning an event to honor BHS Jazz music teacher
Charles Hamilton for his recent award, NFAA's Distinguished Teachers
in the Arts.

He is only the second jazz music teacher ever to receive the award,
and only 50 teachers have been honored in the 25 years of the award.
The event will be a surprise, in the BHS Little Theater, on Saturday
February 3rd.

The Mayor will make a proclamation, Alameda County Supervisor Keith
Carson will give Charles a document of recognition from the County
Board of Supervisors and Assemblywoman Loni Hancock will present
Charles with a Certificate of Recognition from the State Assembly.

The BHS Jazz Ensemble will perform, then BHS Alumni (possibly
including Miles Perkins, Josh Redman & others.) will return to BHS to
pay tribute to Charles, then Charles Hamilton and his combo, followed
by a Bay Area All Star Band, comprised of BHS alumni and other Bay
Area musicians, and Charles. In between will be a few speeches and
presentations. Charles will think he is attending another event at the
Community Theater. The doors will open early (6PM), so that people
have a chance to enjoy refreshments and get settled in before Charles
arrives.

(NOTE: ANYONE who would like to donate savory or desert finger foods
are encouraged to drop off their food at the Little Theater from 4PM
to 5:45PM, so that there will be time to re-plate everything.)

At 7:30PM sharp there will be a reception with Charles followed by the
show from 8pm to 10PM.

This is going to be an entertainment filled night.

Remember: DON"T TELL CHARLES!

Please share this with any BHS Jazz Alumni you know of.

Mark
