STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

1. Thursday is the day when thousands of people will quit smoking on
the great American smokeout.  Come to our Hookah-less tent after
school at the park to experience first hand what it would be like to
chill and hang out without smoking anything.  This year teens Kick
Ash will go from 3 to 5 pm, where you will also have an opportunity
to Adopt a Smoker.  Come win a prize for your hard work and
participation and pick up a quit kit for your smoker.  Please bring
your friends Thursday after school in the park.

2. Cody's Books School Benefit Daze:  Friday-Monday, November 17-20,
2006.  15% of the proceeds of all your purchases (books, calendars,
cards, gift certificates, etc.) at Cody's during this four day event
will be contributed to Berkeley High.  Shop at the Berkeley location,
1730 Fourth St., or San Francisco location, 2 Stockton Street at
Market.  Just save your receipts and mail them to Shawna Hartman
Brotsky  at 451 Kentucky Ave, Berkeley, CA 94707 or call 527-3038.

3. This Health Fact of the week is brought to you by the BHS Health
Center Youth Advisory Board. "Anorexia is the 3rd most common chronic
illness among adolescents."  If you or someone you know has an eating
disorder, please come to the health Center for resources and support.

4. Have you, a family member, or a friend been impacted by drunk
driving?  In recognition of National Drugged and Drunk Driving
prevention Month (Dec) the BHS Health Center is sponsoring a poster
essay contest.  To enter, view the prompt in the Health center lobby
and enter by November 17th.  Every applicant will get a certificate
for a free Chipotle burrito, and one winner will have their poster
displayed throughout the community in December.

5. Mathworks, a math tutoring program at Willard Middle School needs
tutors.  All BHS tutors will get tutoring credit.  The program will
run on Tuesday and Thursdays from 3-4.  Test scores have increased
5-35% on average among Willard Middle students attending the program.
This program is a huge success.  Come tutor at Willard Tuesdays and
Thursdays 3-4 pm.  Contact Willard at 644-6330.

6. JOBS: Part-time Circuit coach position: 8-10 hours/week at $8 an
hour plus commission, free membership and fun environment.  Must be
energetic, friendly and interested in women's health.  Will train.

Clubs

*1. Come learn the facts about HIV, STDs, and how to be SAFE!  Condom
Club meets this Wednesday, November 15th in room H114 during lunch.
You must attend the entire lunch period in order in get a Condom Club
sticker on your ID; don't forget to bring your ID with you!  Brought
to you by PASSHEN.

*2. The dates of Independent Theater Project's informational meetings
have been changed.  The new dates are November 16th, 17th and 20th.
All meetings are at lunch in C213, Mr. Carton's room.  All aspiring
thespians should be there.

*3. Come to French Club! We meet every Friday at lunch in room
C102(Mrs. Cartas room). We will have lots of fun activities and
everyone is welcome.  Don't forget to come.


Sports

1. The Berkeley High Girls Volleyball team (20-9;14-0 ACCAL) went
undefeated in league play to win their seventh straight
Alameda-Contra Costa Athletic League championship and the leagues
automatic berth in the North Coast Section division 1 playoffs.
Berkeley will make its seventh consecutive appearance in NCS playoffs
when it faces 7th seed Granada High School at home in Donahue Gym on
Tuesday, November 14th at 7:00 pm.  Admission: $8 - adults, $5-
students/children/seniors.  Congratulations to Coach Brenda Bertram
and her team!

2. Attention all BHS students : if you would like to learn to be
learn to be a sports announcer or would like to sing the National
Anthem at sporting events please contact Kristin Glenchur, Athletic
Director at kglenchur at berkeley.k12.ca.us.

3. All girls interested in playing Berkeley LaCrosse in the spring
should come to an informational meeting on Wednesday 11/15 on the
bleachers at 4:00.

4.  All boys interested in playing Berkeley Tennis in the Spring
should come to an informational meeting on Thursday, 11/16 on the
bleachers at 4:00 pm.

5. Wrestling is still open to all interested BHS boys and girls.
Workouts are Monday- Friday in the Old Gym Wrestling room from
4:15-6:15.  You must have a complete physical in order to work out.

6. Do you have used soccer equipment lying around?  Poor kids in
Ghana need your stuff!  Please bring any used cleats, balls, shin
guards and jerseys top the Athletic Directors office before Friday,
November 17th, and they will be shipped to Ghana for kids to use.
Help train the next world cup champions.  At lunch or after school.

Senior / Junior Section

*1. College visits to Berkeley High - Seniors: Sign up in D221 to
attend college presentations. You must also pick up an authorization
form for your teacher to sign so that you may miss his or her class.

Events / Performances

*1. The canned food drive is still going on. Every day counts so
please bring your cans to your second period class.  The class with
the most cans will get a pizza party so bring in your cans.  The cans
will be used in BHS annual holiday meal on December 9th.


SALES

1. Juniors, there will be a bake sale today on the senior steps.  All
of the money we make will go towards the Junior Prom.  We won't have
a prom if we don't make enough money.

2. Prices are $75.00 for yearbooks until November, Thanksgiving
holiday and then will be set at $80.00.  Financial Assistance is
available to those who qualify see Mr. Knight during 7th in H102 to
apply.
