STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

*1. Spirited BHS students- Join Mathworks at Wilard Junior High.  Help
tutor and earn Honors/AP tutoring credits.  Contact Sophie Meryash at
388-5670.

*2. Want a FREE email account?  See Mr. Brodie at the library lab at lunch
time for a free Yahoo or Hotmail account.  Also, if you have email
already and want to learn how to save and attach files we can show you how
to do that as well.

*3. Lost and Found-  Sunglasses w/ case and strap- found in Donahue Gym.
Watch found in old gym. Please call Kristin Glenchur at 644-8723.

Clubs

*1. Close-up week long study trip to Washington D.C. Study Government,
close-up.  Lunchtime meeting tomorrow in G201.  Bring your lunch.
Questions to Mr. Collier in G201 or Mr. Angell in C334.

*2. Earphone English at lunch on Wednesday in C116.  The grading period is
over on Friday, so be sure to come get your extra credit so you can give
it to your English teacher.

*3. All best buddies, there's a meeting Tuesday at lunch in H106.  See you
there!

*4. There is going to be a Student Court trial in the Old City Hall across
the street at 2134 martin Luther King Jr Way on Wednesday, October 25th.
The trial lasts from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm and takes place in the Berkeley
City Council chambers on the second floor.  Anyone interested in being on
the jury for a case or simply curious as to how the Student Court trials
work should take the time attend.  There will be refreshments served.  See
you there!

*5. League of women voters will be on campus for voter registration today
on the community theater steps, if you are 18 years old register.

*6. Are you being heard?  Speak your mind.  Speak your truth. Eat some
food.  Come to C128 on Mondays after school to share your ideas about
current issues in our world, community, and in Berkeley high, and help
create a Newsletter to inform others.  There will be food!  Again, it's in
room C128 after school on Monday, October 30th.

*7. Applications for the California Scholarships Federation are now
available in the College Career Center!  The completed application and $1
membership fee are due by Monday, October 30th in the college Center.  If

Sports

1. Potential Basketball Players- you must have a physical in order to try
out for the team.  Try-outs will begin November 6th.

2. You can still join the crew team, learn how to row, get into great shape and
participate in a national champion level team.  You just need enthusiasm,
because no previous experience is necessary. To learn more contact men's

3. Attention all students who intend to try out for Soccer, Basketball, or
Wrestling:  tryouts begin on Monday, November 6th.  You must have a
complete athletic packet with a valid physical ready to turn in to your
coach on the first day of tryouts.  Packets are available in front office
or in the athletic office.  If you haven't had a physical in the last
year, you must schedule one immediately with your doctor or at the BHS
Health center!


Senior / Junior Section

1. Seniors contact ABC Harrell to get your senior portraits.  They just
released a new date: November 1st for all the last minute folks.  Hurry,

2. Senior weekend and Baby pictures are due October 27th.  Please put then
in a self addressed stamped envelope with your name on the back.  High
resolution CD is accepted.  Please turn in to the main office.

3. Bay Area Travel Writers Travel Writing Contest: open to bay Area
high school students.  Students must submit a 500 word essay
concerning a travel destination, experience of activity.  Travel
essays concern the idea and experience of travel-whether the writer
has traveled to the other side of the world, down the block or
anywhere in between.  Postmark deadline: October 31.  $200 first
prize.  Most information available in D221.

4. Seniors- if you have not yet signed up for an appointment with one of
the College Advisors, new sign-up sheets will be posted on Tuesday,
October 24 at 8:00 a.m.  Come to D221 to sign up beginning on Tuesday
morning.

*5. College visits to Berkeley High- Seniors: Sign up in D221 to attend
college presentations. You must also pick up an authorization form for
your teacher to sign so that you may miss his or her class.

Events/ Performance

*1 Come see Youth Musical Theater Compan's production of GUYS and DOLLS!
Opens on Friday, November 3, 7:30 at Longfellow Middle School auditorium
with additional shows on November 4,9, 10, 11 at 7;30 and November 5 at
3:00 pm.  Don't miss this Broadway classic about gamblers, their dolls and
two unlikely love stories all hanging on a bet about cheesecake and
strudel!  Lots of great music, dancing, and a fabulous cast, including 19

*2 The Hotness is on rotation (Berkeley):  The founders and innovators of
Youth Speaks will rotate as facilitators of this very special workshop.
Each week Youth speaks staff, alums, and collaborators will bring their
unique curriculum, perspective, and literary fire to the sessions.
Workshop leaders include Jason Mateo, Khalil Anthony, Michelle”Mush” Lee,
CAs grads Rafael Casal and Chinaka Hodge,. And Youth Speaks Founder James
Kass.  Tuesdays 4-6 pm in room C324.

*3. Come hear the former ambassador to the United nations from the
Seychelles speak about her experiences.  It is a wonderful event in honor
of United Nations day and we hope to see you all there.  Tuesday, October
24th in the BHS library during Lunch through 4th period.

4. Spirit of Berkeley High- Celebrity Showdown Weekend Benefit
Friday, November 10- MTV's Wild 'n Out cast hosted by TK Carter featuring
Spanky Hayes, Shorty Short, Dee Ray and Corey Holcomb Berkeley Community
Theater 8 pm.  Special pre-sell BHS Students tickets, $25.00. Purchase at
BHS Athletic Directors office at lunch and after school, this week!
Tickets go on sale to the public October 21st on TicketWeb.com - $22.50
balcony, $27.50 back, $37.50 front, $40.00 pit.
Saturday, November 11- BHS Football games and celebrities Basketball.
BHS JV and Varsity Football against El Cerrito, 11 am and 1pm
BHS Girls basketball team will be scrimmaging Ursaline HS in Donahue.

SALES

1. Due to rising costs yearbooks will be 
increased.  Prices will go up to $75.00
until November, Thanksgiving holiday and then will be set at $80.00.
Financial Assistance is available to those who qualify see Mr. Knight
during 7th in H102 to apply.

2. Yearbooks photographers bring your cameras back to H102.  This week and
pick up a new one.  We need your photos for our November deadline.

3. Letter jacket sales go on every lunch and immediately after school in
the athletic office during the last week of September and the first week
of October.  Jackets are available for sizing.  Letters and insignias may
be purchased directly from the athletic office.  Anyone may purchase a
jacket, but you must have earned an athletic letter in order to purchase
one.  Jackets are available in red w/ cream or black w/ black sleeves.
Price includes your name and all insignias sewn in. Approximate cost is
$170 per jacket.
