JOB INFORMATION
*After school office job for reliable student with some computer skills 
(MAC is best), assisting in a home office of a local musician and 
community activist. Tasks include email list upkeep, some banking, 
shipping of CD's, some typing (speed not important), possibly some 
simple web updating (will train). Northwest Berkeley location.  2-3 
hours a week. Great for a student interested in the arts, women's

The Albany YMCA is looking for a Girls Volleyball Instructor, 
Wednesdays 3:30-5:00pm.  The class is a recreational fun class for 
beginners designed to introduce middle school girls (grades 5-8) to the 
rules and techniques of the game while learning team dynamics in a 
supportive environment. A paid position with YMCA membership included. 
Must have experience playing on a volleyball team, love and knowledge 
of the game and be over 16 years of age.  For more information, please

Albany Physical Therapy is looking for a student to work approximately 
six hours per week (two hours per day, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) to 
help with office responsibilities.  They offer flexible hours and job

Looking for a job?  Berkeley Public Library is hiring 5 student 
workers. These jobs involve assisting Teen Services librarians in a 
variety of tasks and working with library materials. The application 
period ends on Sept 30, 2006. Pick up and return the completed 
applications to the 2nd floor Reference Desk at the Central Library. 
You must be at least 16 years old. Successful applicants can expect to

Saturday, September 30 from 8:30 to 1:00 at UC Berkeley Wheeler Hall.  
Over 60 public and private college and university representatives will 
be available to speak with you about their colleges.  You can 
pre-register at www.eastbayconsortium.org at no cost.  This is a great 
opportunity for all students to find out more about many colleges from 
around the country.

PSAT – Attention all sophomores and juniors:  Sign-ups for the PSAT 
will begin on Wednesday, September 27 and will continue through Friday, 
October 6 at lunch and after school until 4 p.m. at the D building 
ticket window on Allston Way. The fee for the test is $22.00 cash or 
money order payable to Berkeley High School.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Gates Millennium Scholarship – open to students who are African 
American, American Indian, Asian Pacific Islander or Hispanic American, 
are a US citizen or permanent resident, have a minimum unweighted GPA 
of 3.3, will be enrolling at a US college or university as a full time 
freshman student, demonstrated leadership, and is meets the federal 
eligibility requirements for a Pell grant.  The scholarship pays the 
entire cost of an undergraduate education.  Deadline:  January 12 – but 
start early as you must get a nomination and a recommendation and fill 
out a lengthy application.
	
High school seniors who are exceptional in the arts are encouraged to 
apply for the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts' renowned 
Arts Recognition and Talent Search, which awards scholarships of up to 
$10,000. The program rewards students nationwide in various categories: 
dance, film and video, classical, pop and jazz, photography, theater, 
visual arts, voice and writing. Participating students receive 
scholarships ranging from $500 to $10,000. The registration deadline is 
Oct. 2 and the deadline to submit audition and portfolio materials is 
Nov. 1. Students can register online at www.nfaa.artsawards.org. For
