Upcoming events (FREE!):

* Hip-Hop theater with Colored Ink Saturday July 29th, 4-6pm, at the
West Branch. http://www.coloredink.org

* TAG meets Tuesday, August 1st, 4:30-5:45pm in the Central Library’s
3rd floor meeting room. All teens welcome!

* MC workshop with Sisterz of the Underground at the South Branch on
Thursday, August 10th, 4-6pm. http://www.sisterzunderground.com

Here’s a little overview of some stuff that’s been going on at BPL
this summer:

* Black Infant Healthcare has been coordinating their book club with
BPL’s Teen Services.

* Literary head banging with Blöödhag was educational and loud! We
were schooled on such sci-fi & fantasy masters as Douglas Adams,
Orson Scott Card, Philip Jose Farmer, H.P. Lovecraft, Anne McCaffrey,
Frederick Pohl, and Robert Silverberg. They even threw books into the
crowd. http://www.bloodhag.com

* Scripting, designing, and drawing comix were addressed at Brandon
McKinney’s workshop at the North Branch. His treatment of comix as a
narrative process left no room for turning up one’s nose at this
genre of literary art.

* Comix.@$#! is a graphic novel discussion program for teens
sponsored by the California Center for the Book. We meet at the North
Branch every Monday in July at 4:00 PM.

* The Youth Radio crew discussed the history of radio and the impact
teen’s have on society as radio listeners. We also recorded a public
service announcement to be aired on Youth Radio!

* July’s TAG meeting resulted in the following decisions:

- TAG is a good name for the group;

- A chair should be elected for a three month term and should lead
TAG in developing a program during that time; and

- Try to have a library club at the school to get more people
involved in TAG.

Ongoing stuff:

* Serious Fantasy/Science Fiction Book Club at Claremont Branch on
Thursdays, 4-5:30pm (7/27: De Lint’s The Blue Girl).

* Book Talk: Urban Style at South Branch 2nd & 4th Thursdays,
4-5:30pm (7/27: Baker’s Shiesty).

* TAG meets every first Tuesday of the month, 4:30-5:45pm in the
Central Library’s 3rd floor meeting room.
