SAT WORD OF THE DAY: INDOLENT - lazy.  Cats get their reputation for
being indolent because they love to lie around the house, sleeping
most of the day.  

SENIORS
If you are planning to attend a four-year college and have not turned
in a Transcript Request Form to Ms. Mellion in D173, you must do so
NOW.  All colleges require that you send them a final transcript to
complete the admissions process.  Fill out a Transcript Request Form,
write FINAL TRANSCRIPT across the top, and paper-clip it to a white,
STAMPED, business-sized envelope addressed to the admissions office
of the college you plan on attending.  The return address must be
Berkeley High School, 1980 Allston Way, Berkeley, CA  94704.

LOOKING FOR A FULL-TIME JOB?  Veriflo is hiring production workers in
manufacturing operations in Pt. Richmond.  No experience necessary.

Please remember to let the teachers who wrote your recommendations
know what school you will be attending in the fall.  

If you are getting below a C in any of your classes and are planning
to attend a four year college in the fall, you MUST contact the
college to discuss this.  All colleges will receive a copy of your
final transcript.  By contacting the college and discussing your
options with them, you may be able to prevent your admission from
being rescinded.  Please see me if you would like to discuss your
grades or what to say to the college.

FOR JUNIORS 
If you are considering applying to private school and haven't yet
asked teachers if they would be willing to write you a recommendation
in the fall, please do so before you leave school for the summer.  

 Don't forget to save your graded papers after school is over.  Some
private colleges ask for them as part of the application process.  

The UC pamphlet, Introducing the University, has arrived.  Pick yours
up in the College Center to get information on each UC campus,
including admissions, majors, financial aid and important contact
information.  

FOR ALL STUDENTS
*Would you like to receive FREE energy saving services and hardware
for your home?  Support positive youth-employment and save $$$ on
your utility bills!  CYES is running its 7th annual summer program,
providing direct-installation of CFLs, retractable clotheslines,
showerheads, and more.  This year they have also received funding to
provide attic insulation at approximately 75% off the retail price.

Colleges That Change Lives, 40 small liberal arts colleges from
throughout the country, will be holding their annual panel discussion
and college fair this summer.  Two locations in the Bay Area:

Marriott, 925-934-2000.  Both events are free and pre-registration is

SUMMER
*Youth Media Educator Internship.  This is a paid internship where
students learn media arts and produce their own media projects, as
well as teach your peers.  Program runs for 20-25 hours/week for 6
weeks, July 10-August 18.  Open to low income students in grades 9-12
(next year) who also are willing to work part-time during the school
year.  Applications due by JUNE 15 - TOMORROW!  Send a double spaced
letter of at least one page describing your reasons for applying.
Include information on previous internships or media experience,
though none is required, community experience in youth-related issues
and plans after high school.  Include a letter from an adult who
knows you well explaining why you are applying.  Include your full

The College of Engineering at UC Berkeley is offering an academic
acceleration opportunity to students in grades 7-11.  The
Pre-Engineering Partnerships (PEP) Summer Academy provides classes of
no more than 16 students to engage in hands-on, minds-on experiences
to learn and understand abstract concepts.  Each student will take
courses in math and engineering with integrated science concepts.
June 26-August 4, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Applications available in
D221.  Applications dues by Friday, June 16.  Cost:  $1,200.
