Immediate Press Release: "Out of the Shadow,"
"Reality is a State of Mind"
Filmed over five years, "Out of the Shadow" chronicles award-wining
filmmaker Susan Smiley's mother, Millie, who suffers from paranoid
schizophrenia. A story of madness and dignity, shame and love, "Out
of the Shadow" illuminates a national plight through one family's
struggle, and helps dispel the stigmas and misconceptions surrounding
this harrowing illness.
This film is not apppropriate for children under 12 years.
Embracing Diversity Films, Albany High School PTA, and the Mental
Health Association of Alameda County present "Out of the Shadow" on
Thursday June 15 at 7p.m. in the Albany High School Library, 603 Key
Route Blvd. in Albany. The site is wheelchair accessible. (Please
enter the gymnasium doors on Thousand Oaks Blvd., turn right, go
through another door and walk straight down hallway to the library.)
Following the one-hour film there will be a facilitated discussion
for those wishing to participate. Admission is free and donations are
welcome.
