SAT WORD OF THE DAY: MYRIAD - too numerous to be counted.  The
biologist spent her entire career categorizing the myriad plant
species of the rain forest.    

JUNIORS - There are now many openings for appointments with either
Ms. Abrams or Mr. Stringfellow.  If you have not already had an
appointment or missed a previous one, sign up now in D221 before they
are gone.

JOB OPENINGS
Seniors - Full time summer jobs available with the Social Security
Administration, 1221 Nevin Avenue, Richmond, across from the Richmond
BART station.  Pay:  $11.34 per hour.  Low income students are given
priority for employment.  Applications available in D221.  

Meyer Sound Labs has 5-7 paid summer internships for high school
students (must be 16 year old) in manufacturing operations doing
assembly or data entry type work. Interns must commit to a minimum of
6-8 weeks for 30 hours per week. Interested students can either stop
by Meyer Sound at 2832 San Pablo Ave. (near Ashby) between 8:30 AM
and 5 PM to fill out an application, or can email hr at meyersound.com.

PRESENTATIONS
Wednesday, May 10
1:20 p.m.	UC Berkeley summer session - find out about
interesting classes to improve your skills and GPA over the summer.
Sign up in D221 to come to the presentation.  

SENIORS
* If you are getting below a C in any of your classes and are
planning to attend a four year college in the fall, you MUST contact
the college to discuss this.  All colleges will receive a copy of
your final transcript.  By contacting the college and discussing your
options with them, you may be able to prevent your admission from
being rescinded.  Please see me if you would like to discuss your
grades or what to say to the college.

*Planning on taking a year off before going to college?  Not sure
what to do?  Check out the Dynamy program, a residential internship
program with sites in Massachusetts and Santa Rosa, CA.  The program
offers students the opportunity to work in three different full-time
internship placements as well as a wilderness expedition, community
service, residential living with other interns, and optional college
seminars.  This is a well-known and reputable program.  For more

SCHOLARSHIPS
Greater San Francisco Advertising Club Scholarship Program - Open to
seniors who plan to study advertising communications, design,
journalism, marketing or media.  Applications available in D221.  Two
$500 scholarships will be awarded.  Deadline:  May 5.    

Nancy Elizabeth Branch 2006 African-American Scholarship - Open to
African-American seniors planning to attend a four year college.
Applications available in D221.  Scholarship:  $1,000.  Deadline:
May 31.  

Berkeley Chamber of Commerce Scholarship - Scholarships awarded on
the basis of scholastic achievement, financial need, citizenship,
leadership, service and employment. Parent must be a member of the
Berkeley Chamber of Commerce. $1,000.  Deadline:  June 15.   

Vietnam Veterans Group of San Quentin - Scholarships open to
graduating seniors who either have a parent or legal guardian
currently serving in the Armed Forces or was honorably discharged
from the Armed Forces.  Two scholarships available - $1,500 and $750.
Deadline:  May 5.  

Lambda Theta Nu Sorority 2006 Latina Scholarship Fund - Applicant
must be a female graduating senior of Latino heritage who is planning
to attend an accredited two or four year college or technical school.
Deadline:  May 5

FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS 
College Presentations
Exploring College Options - featuring representatives from Duke,
Georgetown, Harvard and Penn.  Monday, May 8, 7:30 p.m.  Hilton San
Francisco, 333 O'Farrell St., SF, 415-771-1400.  

University of Rochester - Saturday, May 20, 10:00 a.m., San Francisco
Airport Marriott.  For more information, go to

May 22 - Representatives from Haverford, Colorado College, Kenyon,
Connecticut College, Claremont McKenna, Macalester, Sarah Lawrence
and Grinnell will host an informational meeting at the Westin SF
Airport, 1 Old Bayshore Highway, Millbrae starting at 7:00 p.m.  

SAT/ACT TEST DATES -May 5 is the regular registration deadline for
the June 10 ACT.  May 10 is the late registration deadline for the
June 3 SAT.  Students may register for the SAT at
www.collegeboard.com or for the ACT at www.act.org.  There are also
paper registration applications for both tests available in D221.  

ALL STUDENTS
Summer Reading Skills Program - sponsored by Cal State East Bay,
these classes are available for students of all grades.  Classes
offered in Berkeley and Oakland.  Information available in D221 or by
calling 1-800-978-3532.  

SUMMER PROGRAMS
Take classes at any of the UC campuses for college credit.  For more
