STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

1.	Late Start Day: School for students starts at 10:00 AM.

2.	BSEP Applications are due to day by 3:00 pm.  Don’t forget to turn 
them
in.

3.	The BHS Site Council will meet Tuesday, February 28th, 4:30 -6:00 PM 
in
the Conference Room or Library.  On the agenda are an update on
advisories, Safety and Attendance Data, an Academic Choice update, and
student orientation, registration and scheduling.  Please feel free to
contact me with any questions.

4.	There is a Student Council meeting this Thursday at lunch in the 
Little
Theater.  All second period representatives must attend.

5.	The MORP (Prom backwards) is scheduled for March 10th from 6-10 PM in
the BHS Food Court.  This is an informal prom where Juniors and Seniors
have to be guest of a Freshman or a Sophomore.  Tickets are $5.00  per
students and only BHS students can attend.  You can purchase tickets at
lunch from the box office on Allston Way.  Special Guest Artist will be
performing!  See you there!


Clubs

1.	ATTENTION ALL CLUBS!  If you want to sign up for a table at incoming
9th Grade information night (which is Wednesday, March 1st from 7-9 pm)
please come to D148 and talk to Ms. McKnight- Johnson ASAP!

2.	Earphone English at lunch today in C116.

3.	The first Berkeley High Student Court trial of the semester will be
held today!  If you want to be a juror and  earn community service or 
extra
credit, come to Berkeley City Council Chambers today at 5:00 PM.  The 
City
Council Chambers is in the green-domed building across the start from 
the
park.

4.	Please come to a hugely important ultimate Frisbee Club meeting this
Wednesday, March 1, at lunch in Mr. Fike’s classroom (Old Gym).  Come
learn about upcoming tournaments, practices, eligibility and the Nor Cal
High School Championships!  Bring your lunch and see you there.

5.	Health Fact of the Week:  An estimated 38,000 high school students in
the United States crash while driving under the influence of marijuana
each year.  Be safe, be sober.  Don’t use marijuana and drive.  Brought 
to
you by the BHS Youth Advisory Board.

Sports

Senior / Junior Section

1.	College Visits:


2.	Seniors!  Did you miss your Senior Portrait appointment!  Did you
forget to schedule one?  Well, you now have one more opportunity to be
featured on the Senior Formal Memory poster.  Appointments are available
on March 15th and 16th from 2:30 – 7:00 pm here at BHS.  Contact
ABCHArrell.com for more information or see Ivery McKnight-Johnson in 
D148.

3.	Scholarships: Oakland Associations of Insurance Agents- $5,000
scholarship, renewable for three additional years, to graduating senior
with a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 who has participated in community
service and has financial need.  Applications available in D221.
Deadline:  March 31.

4.	Thurgood Marshall Scholarships- 2,000 merit scholarships awarded
through 47 different Historically Black Colleges and Universities, each
with their own criteria and their own application.  High School GPA
minimum of 3.0 and a minimum combined critical reading/math score of 
1100
with financial need.  For more information and a list of schools, go to

5.	For seniors- Want to be a chef?  Would you like to work in a hotel
management?  The Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Program of 
City
College of San Francisco is now accepting applications for Fall 2006.

Application deadline: April 10.

6.	For Juniors-KRON 4 Students Rising Above Scholarship.  This is a
scholarship for students who will graduate from high school and then
attend college in 2007.  Students must be from low income families who 
are
rising above great difficulties and succeeding in school and in life.
Applications are available in D221.  Applications must be received by 
KRON
by Tuesday, April 4.

7.	California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) 
is
now accepting applications.  COSMOS is now enrolling students at four
sites-UC Davis, Irvine, San Diego and Santa Cruz.  Tuition, room and 
board
is $2,000, but FULL SCHOLARSHIPS are available for qualified students.
The COSMOS course clusters address topics not traditionally taught in 
high
schools such as astronomy, aerospace engineering, biomedical sciences,
computer science, wetlands ecology, ocean science, robotics, game 
theory,
and more.  The program runs from July 9 – August 5.  Apply at http:// [

  Deadline is March 16 at 5:00 pm.

8.	Anita Baskerville Harris Scholarship Award – Graduating
African-American female with a minimum GPA of 3.0 with financial need 
who
is planning to attend a four year college or university.  Scholarships
range from $500 to $2,000.  Deadline: April 1.

Events/ Performance
1.	In honor of Dr. Suess’ birthday, come to the library on Thursday, 
March
2 during lunch for the inauguration of the Library Lunchtime Café.  Eat
your lunch at the designated tables with tablecloths and flowers.  Feed
your mind and body simultaneously.

2.	Come hear the Berkeley High Jazz ensemble and Combos at Yoshi’s on
Monday, March 6.  In addition to their standard repertoire, they will be
performing an original composition by and with BHS Alum and Jazz great,
Peter Apfelbaum.  Each show will feature a combo and the big band.
Tickets are $15.   Show times are 8:00pm and 10:00 pm.  Please call

3.	Brown Bag Theatre is back!  Come see Advanced Theatre projects do ten
different versions of the same short play - YES- by David Mamet each
directed by a different student at lunch February 27- March 1st.

SALES

1.	BART Ticket orders will be taken on 2/27/ and 2/28 at lunchtime in 
room
D224.  Ticket prices are $16.00 each.  Cash only.

2.	Yearbooks are on sale in H102 everyday at lunch and after school.  
They
are $70 dollars.  Make checks payable to BHS yearbooks.
