Administration
1. There will be not Writer's Café, today,
Wednesday 2/22. But we'll be back tomorrow,
Thursday 2/23 in A101. Come work with a writing
coach. Ask your teacher about extra credit. Find
out if you can re-write for a better grade.
2. The Coordinated School Health Program
will meet Wednesday, February 22, @3:30 -5:00 PM
in conference room B. Food will be served. See
ya there!
3. The BHS BSEP committee funds of all types
of student enrichment programs with money
provided by the BSEP Tax Measure of 1994. BSEP
program proposal application forms are now
available for the fall 2006. You can pick them
up from Belinda McDaniel in the Admin office or
call her at 644-4800. The forms can also be sent
electronically.
4. Auditions for the Berkeley High School
Jazz Lab Band II (intermediate level) for fall
2006 will be held in A building, Room 201
Thursday, February 23rd at 3:15 (trombone).

5. King Middle School After-school ELL
Tutorial is looking for Spanish bilingual tutors
who can work from 3-4, Monday, Tuesday and
Thursday, and from 2:15 - 3:15 on Wednesday.
We'll also hire monolingual English speaking
tutors who want to patiently work with middle
school students.
You must be in the 11th or 12th grade and able to
get to King on time. Pay: $9.00 / hour. Come to
the Science room 7 and ask for Patricia Rathwell
or Mrs. Hamai. You may also call 644-4811.
6. Responsible student assistant needed to
work at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory for 9-10
hours per week, times are flexible. Knowledge of
Microsoft Word and Excel is recommended. Free
shuttle from downtown Berkeley BART to the lab.
Salary $7.25 per hour. Call Susan Macalester at

1. Wanna be safe? Come to G103 at lunch today to join the condom club.
2. Attention all club reps: Club field
trips and off campus events must be submitted for
approval to Ms. Bennett on the appropriate Field
trip request form and signed by your club's
teacher sponsor. For questions, see Ms. Bennett.
3. APIC ! Come to this week's meeting on Thursday at lunch in room G302!
4. Earphone English at lunch in CV116 on
Wednesday. Need to change your audio book? Come
out and take care of it today.
5. Violence is a serious issue, and
unfortunately a familiar one in the community.
In the United States, minority males bear most of
the burden of homicide victimization. In 2001,
among males aged 15 to 19 years, 3.9% victims of
100, 0 were whites, 6.9% were Asian/ Pacific
Islanders, 15.8% were native Americans, 23.8%
were Hispanics and 59.9% were blacks. Save these
lives. Stop the violence. Brought to you by the

Sports
Senior / Junior Section
1. Attention all seniors, we are having a
slide-show of 9th -12th grade during our senior
ball. So get your pictures in! Bring your
pictures to room D148 during lunch. There is a
limit of 3 pictures per person. Put your
pictures in an envelope with your name printed
legibly on both the envelopes and pictures!
2. Seniors! It's time to purchase your
senior pages. A single page is $200 and a double
page is $400. Come by the yearbook room H102
after-school! The deadline to purchase is
February 24th. Limited amount of pages, so hurry!
3. For seniors- Want to be a chef? Would
you like to work in a hotel management? The
Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Program
of City College of San Francisco is now accepting
applications for Fall 2006. For more

Application deadline: April 10.
4. For Juniors-KRON 4 Students Rising Above
Scholarship. This is a scholarship for students
who will graduate from high school and then
attend college in 2007. Students must be from
low income families who are rising above great
difficulties and succeeding in school and in
life. Applications are available in D221.
Applications must be received by KRON by Tuesday,
April 4.
5. California State Summer School for
Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) is now accepting
applications. COSMOS is now enrolling students
at four sites-UC Davis, Irvine, San Diego and
Santa Cruz. Tuition, room and board is $2,000,
but FULL SCHOLARSHIPS are available for qualified
students.
The COSMOS course clusters address topics not
traditionally taught in high schools such as
astronomy, aerospace engineering, biomedical
sciences, computer science, wetlands ecology,
ocean science, robotics, game theory, and more.
The program runs from July 9 -August 5. Apply at

Deadline is March 16 at 5:00 PM.
6. Anita Baskerville Harris Scholarship
Award: Graduating African-American female with a
minimum GPA of 3.0 with financial need who is
planning to attend a four year college or
university. Scholarships range from $500 to
$2,000. Deadline: April 1.
Events/ Performance
1. In celebration of African American
History month, come hear two renowned celebrities
in the Berkeley High Library Wednesday, February
22, at 7 PM. Morrie Turner, creator of Wee Pals,
the first syndicated multiethnic cartoon,
graduated from Berkeley High and makes his home
here.
Karen McKie, storyteller extraordinaire, has been
an active participant in the Berkeley High School
community. This event is jointly sponsored by
the African American Studies department, the
Black Student Union and Berkeley High Library.
