STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration
1.	BYA has available part-time positions for teenagers to work 
with our Community Garden Team.  To apply please bring your recent 
report cards or stop by our Career Center to fill out an application. 
The hours are Monday- Friday 4-6 PM.


Clubs
1.	Do you want to win money and scholarships?  Then enter the 
69th Annual Lions club student speakers contest.  To find out more 
contact Miss Lovett in room C331 or come to an informational meeting 
at lunch on Thursday, January 19th in D218.

2.	Do you believe today's political situation is in dire need of 
your help?  Come to the World Can't Wait Activist club to work with 
your peers in a common goal of making this world a better place in 
room C134 Thursdays at lunch.

3.	Have you ever lost a friend due to suicide?  Do you think 
suicide is still a major issue?  Come to the suicide prevention club 
this Wednesday not Friday in room C338.

4.	Come help your classmates and earn community service credit 
as a juror at the next Berkeley High Student Court trial.  The trial 
will be held on Wednesday at 6 PM in a new location-1720 Oregon ST. 
All jurors who have not gone through orientation must arrive at 5 PM.

5.	Attention drama students- Do you have a monologue or skit 
prepared?  If so, join us on the Forensics team and enter into 
Individual events at tournaments  For more information contact Miss 
Lovett in room C331 or come to an informational meeting Thursday, 
January 19th lunch in D218.

6.	The next trip to the Berkeley Snowboard Club is scheduled for 
Saturday, February 4th to Sugarbowl.  There is a mandatory club 
meeting this Tuesday in room C213 at lunchtime.  Everyone who is 
planning on attending the trip must fill out their forms and hand 
them in along with their checks by
today.

7.	Ping Pong club today at lunch on the upper floor of the old 
gym.  Due to poplar demand we will now be meeting every Tuesday and 
Friday.  Anyone interested is encouraged to attend.

8.	Clubs!  Do you want to be in the yearbook?  Come to H102 
during 7th to reserve your pages by January 20th.  $25 for a quarter 
page.  $50 for a half page and $100 for a full page.  All pages need 
to be in by February 24th.


Sports
1.	There will be a meeting of all interested swimmers and divers 
on Thursday, January 19th at 11:40 AM (lunchtime) at the Berkeley 
High pool bleachers.  Please bring completed athletic packets if you 
have them.  If you cannot attend this meeting, see Coach Gaebler for 
information.

2.                All BHS Girls who want to play softball are welcome 
to attend voluntary pre-season conditioning this week on Thursday and 
Friday, 3:45-4:45 PM.  Meet at the bleachers.  Athletic packets may 
be turned in at this time.  Wear workout clothes and running shoes. 
Do not bring any softball gear. All potential softball players are 
encouraged to participate in conditioning.


Senior / Junior Section
1.	Seniors- Kiwanis Scholarship-open to all students from 
Berkeley, Albany, and El Cerrito.  Two letters of recommendation and 
essay required.  A total of $35,000 in scholarship money will be 
awarded.  Complete application must be received by Kiwanis by March 
31.

2.	FAFSA Workshops: Bring your financial information and your 
questions.  Trained assistants from UC Berkeley will be available to 
help you fill out the financial aid forms.  All workshops are in the 
Berkeley High School library computer lab:

       Wednesday, February 8, 3:30 PM
       Monday, February 13, 6:30 PM
       Thursday, February 16, 7:30 AM
       Tuesday, February 21, 3:30 PM

3.	For all students- Etude Club of Berkeley offers over $1500 in 
prizes in the Young Artist Award Competition.  Awards in piano, voice 
and orchestral instruments.  For application and audition 
requirements, call Dr. Susan Waller at 925-829-4922.  Deadline: March 
15.

4.	All athletes:  College Admissions and the Student Athlete- 
January 18, 7:30 to 9:00 PM, Bishop O'Dowd High School Theater, 9500 
Stearns Ave., Oakland.  Get all of your questions answered on the 
college athletic recruitment process.  For more information, contact

5.	Lewis H. Latimer Scholarship- Open to African-American 
seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 who is planning to enroll in a four 
year college, community college or business school. Essay and letter 
of recommendation is required.  Applications available in D221. 
Award: Minimum of $500.
Deadline: March 3.

6.	Junior and Senior Artists- National Portfolio Day, Saturday, 
January 21 at Art Academy University, 79 New Montgomery St. San 
Francisco, 12:00 noon- 4:00 PM.  This is your chance to have try our 
portfolio reviewed by an expert. Representatives of over 30 leading 
colleges of art and design

Events/ Performance
1.	Make a joyful noise for the Spring Musical- we need Guys who 
can sing GOSPEL music for the Spring show "Bat Boy the Musical." 
Please sign up for auditions in the A building 1st floor or see
  Mr. Winer for details.

2.	Want to have the time of your life?  Enjoy classical music 
played by your classmates in the Winter Chamber music concert.  Show 
up at the Florence Schwimley Little Theater here at 7:30 PM this 
Thursday, January 19th.  It's free and the music sure is swell.

3.	Screenagers:  8th Annual Bay Area High School Film and Video 
Festival, Sunday, January 22.  Two shows, 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM (two 
screenings/ same show) Tickets: $5 students/ $8 adults at the Pacific 
Film Archive.  PFA Theater: 2575 Bancroft Way at Bowditch, Berkeley

SALES
1.	Winter ball tickets are on sale at lunch on Monday, 
Wednesday, and Fridays at the Allston Way box office.  Tickets are 
$65.00.  We will no longer accept any checks! Students must have ID 
and a student's activities contract on file.

2.	Yearbooks are on sale in H102 everyday at lunch and after 
school.  They are $70 dollars.
