STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration
1.	Drugs, violence, prostitution, 66 liquor stores and 33 bars packed 
into
35 city blocks.  This is the Tenderloin.  Come to an informational
meeting on January 13th (this Friday) from 3:30-4:30 pm in G201.  Find 
out
what you can do to help. A speaker from the Tenderloin will be coming to
educate us on homelessness in San Francisco.

2.	Attention sophomores and staff: today, January 12th, the sophomores
Town Haall meeting is happening 3rd period in the Community Theater.  
If your
3rd period has all sophomores you will attend the meeting with your 
class.

3.	Did you volunteer for the Holiday meal?  If the answer is yes, then
come pick up the form that confirms your community service hours.  This
can be used for CSF credit.  Forms are available in Mrs. McKnight’s
office, D148.

4.	The Berkeley High School Site council and Shared Governance will meet
on Tuesday, January 17th from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. in the BHS Library.  On 
the
agenda are: Berkeley International High School Proposal- decision on a
recommendation for the Board, review of lottery results and an update on
the plan for the Master Schedule.  For the full agenda, please see the

Clubs
1.	The Berkeley High Student Court is still accepting applications to 
be a
student lawyer.  Pick up an application outside C311.  The deadline is
today.

2.	Do you want to win money and scholarships?  Then enter the 69th 
Annual
Lions Cclub Student Speakers contest.  To find out more contact Miss 
Lovett
in  C331 or come to an informational meeting at lunch on Thursday,
January 19th in D218.

3.	Attention Drama students:  Do you have a monologue or skit prepared? 
  If
so, join us on the Forensics team and enter into Individual events at
tournaments  For more information contact Miss Lovett in  C331 or come
to an informational meeting Thursday, January 19th lunch in D218.

4.	Do you believe today’s political situation is in dire need of your
help?  Come to the World Can’t Wait Activist Club to work with you 
towards
a common goal of making this world a better place.

5.	The next trip to the Berkeley Snowboard Club is scheduled for 
Saturday,
February 4th to Sugarbowl.  There is a mandatory club meeting this 
Tuesday
in C213 at lunchtime.  Everyone who is planning on attending the trip
must fill out their forms and hand them in  along with their checks by
next Tuesday, January 17th.

6.	BHS Language and Culture exchange we will have an exchange this
Thursday January 12, 1st period in the cafeteria.  Please see Mr. 
Berkman
in C107 for a permission slip.

7.	Applications to be a lawyer for the Berkeley High Student Court are 
now
outside C311.  Please return them by Thursday at 4:00 p.m.  For

8.	The Club Commissioners meeting will be on Thursday, January 12th at
lunch in Conference room A.  All club representatives must attend.
Club:  Do you want to be in the yearbook?  Come to H102 during 7th to
reserve your pages by January 20th.  $25 for a quarter page.  $50 for a
half page and $100 for a full page.  All pages need to be in by February
24th.

Sports
1.	All students interested in playing baseball for Berkeley High this 
year
should come to a meeting during lunchtime on Thursday 1/12 in C128.

2.	Berkeley Wrestling hosts John Swett High School today at 7:00 pm in 
the Old
Gym Social Hall.  Come out and support your wrestlers and cheer them on 
to
victory.

Senior / Junior Section
1.	Lewis H. Latimer Scholarship: Open to African-American seniors with a
minimum GPA of 2.5 who is planning to enroll in a four year college,
community college or business school. Essay and letter of recommendation
is required.  Applications available in D221.  Award: Minimum of $500.
Deadline: March 3.

2.	Two helpful lunchtime workshops led by BHS alum and UC Berkeley
Incentive Awards winner, Laila Nossier, in conference room A.  Thursday,
January 12- ways to reduce stress in college application process.  Don’t
miss these useful sessions!

3.	If you applied to any colleges which require your first semester
grades, Mid-Year report Forms are due to Ms. Mellion in D173 no later 
than
January 17.  Turn in the Mid-Year Report Form along with a Transcript
Request Form with "Mid Year Report" written across the top and a stamped
envelope addressed to the college with a return address of Berkeley High
School 1980 Allston Way, Berkeley, CA 94704.  Remember the postage cost
has increased to 39 cents.

4.	Missed the CAL deadline?  The following Cal State campuses are still
accepting applications: Cal Maritime, Bakersfield, Channel Islands,
Domiguez Hills, East Bay (formerly named Hayward), Fresno, Fullerton, 
Los
Angeles, Monterey Bay, Sacramento, San Bernadino, San Marcos, 
Stanislaus,
Humboldt, San Francisco, and San Jose.  DEADLINE to apply to San 
Francisco
is January 13th.

5.	Junior and Senior Artists: National Portfolio Day, Saturday, January 
21
at Art Academy University, 79 New Montgomery St. San Francisco, 12:00
noon- 4:00 pm.  This is your chance to have try our portfolio reviewed 
by
an expert. Representatives of over 30 leading colleges of art and design
will be present.  For more information go to www, npda.org or call

Events/ Performance
1.	Did you love RIZE and Mad Hot Ballroom??  Come out and see the real
deal!  Berkeley High School’s Dance Production 2006 performs this 
weekend
and next:  Friday and Saturdays, January 13, and 14 @8 pm in the Little
Theater.  Students $5/ General $10.  Hip hop, Jazz, Modern and Ballet-
these dancers can bust a move like nobody’s business.

2.	The Berkeley High Jazz Ensemble and Combos winter performance will be
at Ashkenaz on Sunday, January 15.  Show starts at 7:30 pm doors open at
7:00 pm.  Please join us for some great music at 1317 San Pablo Av.
Ticket prices: $10 individual, $15 couple and $5 students.

SALES
1.	Winter Ball tickets are on sale at lunch on Monday, Wednesday, and
Fridays at the Allston Way box office.  Tickets are $65.00.  We will no
longer accept any checks! Students must have ID and a student’s 
activities
contract on file.

2.	Yearbooks are on sale in H102 everyday at lunch and after school.  
They
are $70.  Make checks payable to BHS yearbooks.
