College Advisor's Bulletin
Monday, December 12, 2005

SAT WORD OF THE DAY: UNANIMITY – total agreement among members of a
group. Because unanimity is so hard to obtain, the usual requirement
for passage of a law is a simple majority.

FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS
Tuesday, December 13 at lunchtime – presentation on United World
Colleges. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested
in living and studying abroad during high school, regardless of ability
to pay. There are ten United World Colleges in the UK, Singapore,
Canada, Swaziland, the USA, Italy, Venezuela, Hong Kong, Norway and
India. Each College has its own distinctive character but all share a
common mission. Students from all over the world gather to study and
participate in community service. For more information, go to
www.uwc.org and/or attend this informative presentation.

FOR SENIORS
FINANCIAL AID – The new FAFSA on the Web Worksheet is now available in
the College/Career Center. Come by to pick up a copy so that you can
be ready to file the FAFSA online when it becomes available on January
1.

*If you have not yet gotten two FAFSA PIN numbers – one for the student
and one for a parent or guardian – now is a good time to apply. It
takes only a few minutes and will allow you to file your FAFSA online,
which I strongly recommend. Go to www.pin.ed.gov to apply for your PIN
number.

MISSED THE CAL STATE DEADLINE?
Many Cal State campuses are still accepting applications. For a
complete list come by D221 or go to www.csumentor.edu and click on
“Still Accepting Applications?”

SAT/ACT scores – remember that you are required to send official scores
to each campus where you are applying. You can do this by going to
www.collegeboard.com for SAT scores and www.act.org for ACT scores.
Simply entering your scores on your application is not sufficient. You
MUST send official scores. To send SAT scores to all CSU campuses and
pay only one $9 fee, use the code 3594 (csumentor). Scores must be
sent separately to each UC campus. The scores do not have to be
received by the campuses by November 30th, but send them now as it
takes 4-6 weeks for each campus to receive them.

ESSAY READERS
Essay readers are now available every day at lunchtime if you need to
