Administration
1. Greetings BHS staff: The Coordinated
School Health Program is hosting its 3rd
coalition meeting, Thursday, November 17th from
5-6 PM in conference room B. New members
welcome! Come be a part of an awesome group that
is invested in seeing all students achieve
socially, academically and are healthy. See ya
there!
2. Please continue bringing canned food to
your 2nd period class until December 10th! This
is for the Holiday Meal to help the homeless. We
appreciate your help!
Clubs
1. Earphone English: Don't forget to stop
by to pick up new audio books, make requests or
add to your extra credit sheets. We'll also
begin planning a future party.
2. Health Fact of the Week: Most sexually
transmitted infections have no symptoms.
Meaning, there are no signs, but you still have
the infection. STI/ STD testing is available,
free, and confidential @the BHS Health Center.
That means you can get tested without paying a
cent. So don't wait, get tested now. Brought to
you by the BHS Youth Advisory Board.
3. Just how independent are you? Find out
and audition for ITP's. Come to our final
information session on Wednesday, November 16th
if you have not signed up for an audition. The
info session will be at lunch on Wednesday in
C213.
4. Achtung! Achtung! Come see one of the
first creepy films, "The Cabinet of Dr.
Caligari," a silent German movie from 1919. Come
and bring your lunch to the German Film Club
today during lunch in C115.
5. Got an assignment due? Writer's Café is
open during lunch today in A101. We have trained
coaches to help you with your writing
assignments. Come and see us. We're open from
11:30 to 12:10 Wednesdays and Thursdays- first
come, first served. Snacks available.
6. Close-Up: All Close up students and
those interested in participating in Close-Up
should attend the meeting at lunchtime today in
G201. Candy sales start this week. Discussion
topics start this week. Be prompt. See Mr.
Collier at G201.
7. Are you an artist or writer? Like to
draw or take pictures? Then enter the National
Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month
Poster-Essay Contest. It's easy- create an
original 8.5 x 11 poster and write a 200 word or
less essay on drunk and drugged driving
prevention. Turn in your entries to H105, the
Health Center by Wednesday, December 7 for your
chance to win some cool prizes.
8. Attention Culture and Exchange club
members: Important meeting Thursday at lunch in
C105, to plan Thanksgiving potluck. See Mr.
Berkman for details.
9. Opera Club! Okay, the big excursion of
the season. The BHS Opera Club will be going to
see Verdi's "La Forza del Destino" on Saturday,
November 26th. Let Mr. Ayers in C324 know if you
want tickets right away. They cost $30. I also
have the CD of the opera and we will arrange some
pre-opera listening.
10. Do you love kids? Do you love books?
Come join the Reach Out and Read Club! We'll be
volunteering at local hospitals reading to kids
and raising money for books. Come to an
informational session this Thursday to learn more
about this amazing opportunity!
11. BHS students! "Speak on it" meets every
Wednesday at lunchtime conference room A. All
students welcome- come express your thoughts and
help create solutions to any gaps in services@
BHS. Snacks provided. See ya there!
Sports
1. All cross country runners team pictures will
be taken today at the softball field at 4:15 PM.
Bring your uniform.
Senior / Junior Section
1. Seniors who have taken senior formals
with ABC Harrell, please go online and select
your portrait packages ASAP.
2. Did you know that you can apply to up to
31 colleges that are on the Common Black College
Application for only a $35 fee? Go to

3. Award Opportunity- The Soroptimist club
offers an award to a young woman ages 14-17 that
make the community and world a better place
through volunteer efforts. Volunteer actions that
benefit women and girls are particularly valued.

December 1.

Events/ Performance
1. Young people, ages 15-24 make up half of
all new HIV infections worldwide. More than 6000
become infected everyday. The HIV Prevention
Program will be sponsoring a school-wide event on
Thursday, December 1st for World AIDS Day. Stop
by the Community Theater 8:30 AM to 4 PM. There
will be displays, hands-on learning activities, a
tour of AIDS memorial quilt panels, as well as
panels made to BHS students. Come by, STOP AIDS,
and keep the promise.
SALES
1. Come to the Key Club Bake Sale on
Wednesday at lunch on the Community Theater
steps. Proceeds will be donated to one Red Cross.
2. Bart tickets for November are in. Please
pick up your tickets in room D224.
3. BHS Wearables will be sold Fridays from
3:15-3:45 PM at the Athletic Director's office by
Donahue Gym. PJ bottoms, hoodie sweatshirts,
t-shirts and sweats. Contact Mary Kay Murlas,
