Administration
1. Spend your day off with fellow students and Rebuilding Together to
prepare a home for a family affected by Hurricane Katrina. Volunteers,
including students needing to complete community service hours, are
invited to work this Friday (preferably) and Saturday. We will be
sanding, painting, and doing other repairs to the home. If you are
interested contact: Rowan or Richard Spencer at 693-3127 or Amy Dawson
at 644-8979. Bring an old long sleeved shirt. Pizza will be provided.
2. Cody’s Books School Benefit Daze: Friday- Monday, November 11-14,
2005. 25% of the proceeds of your purchases at Cody’s during this four
day event will be contributed to Berkeley High. Shop (2 Berkeley
locations) at 2454 Telegraph Ave, and 1730 Fourth Street; 1 San
Francisco location-2 Stockton Street at Market. Just save your receipts
and mail them to Julie Wong, 1311 Santa Fe Ave, Berkeley, CA 94702 or
call 528-8191.
3. Got an assignment due? Writer’s Café is open during lunch today in
A101. We have trained coaches to help you with your writing
assignments. Come and see us. We’re open from 11:30 to 12:10
Wednesdays and Thursdays; first come, first served. Snacks available.
Clubs
1. Health Fact of the Week: Drivers who use cell phones while driving
are four times more likely to crash than those not on a cell phone. Be
safe while driving by avoiding the use of cell phones. This health
fact was brought to you by the Berkeley High School Health Center Youth
Advisor.
2. The few, the proud, ITP’s: Informational meetings November 9, 10th
and 16th in room C213 at lunch.
3. Calling all poets! Enter the Poets Stomping Smoking poetry contest.
Write a poem, rap or flow to express the truth about smoking. Use your
inner creativity to educate your peers, combat youth smoking and expose
tobacco industry lies, exploitation and social injustice. Cool prizes,
including $50 cash grand prize! Pick up a submission form from the
door of G202 and submit your entry by November 9th. Poetry
reading/Awards reception on November 17th at 7:00 pm at the Hall of
Health. All are welcome.
4. Speak on It meets every Wednesday at lunch in Conference Room A.
Come join and be part of a group that helps makes a difference at BHS.

5. Come to an APIC food sale today at lunch at the Community Theater
steps. Don’t miss out on some great fried rice, chicken and other
yummy foods.
6. Achtung! Achtung! Come see “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”, a 1919
silent German expressionist movie. Bring your lunch and come to German
Film Club, which meets every Wednesday in C115.
7. Are you ready for some extreme sport action? Come to the Ping Pong
club today at lunch for our first meeting of the year. We will be
meeting in the ping pong room on the upper floor of the old gym. Anyone
interested is encouraged to attend.
8. Having sex? Thinking about having sex? Come join Condom Club this
Wednesday at lunch. Bring your food and come to classroom G103 to
sign up. Come once and get a sticker for the back of your ID. Show
your ID at the Health Center and receive 12 free condoms. There will be
free food.
Sports
1. BHS Crew: Looking for a spring sport? The BHS crew team needs
additional novice rowers, for men’s and women’s crew to fill out the
team roster. Rowers are conditioning over the winter in preparation
for the spring race season. No previous rowing experience required!

2. Girls Volleyball Tuesday, Nov. 8 SENIOR NIGHT
Come out and support Girls Volleyball as they try to even the score
against the Encinal Jets. A win by Berkeley High means an ACCAL
co-championship and a trip to NCS post-season. It's also Senior Night
and the last home match for Class of '06 Varsity players Stephanie
Lowe, Yajide Yejide Najee-Ullah and Megan Hourula.
JV @4:30 pm, Varsity @ 5:30pm Go Jackets!
3. The final league football game of the year versus rival El Cerrito
has been moved from Thursday to Friday at 5:00 p.m. at El Cerrito.
Students/ Seniors $3 and Adults $5. Come out and support your Yellow
Jackets!
Senior / Junior Section
1. Seniors: If you are applying to any private schools which require
counselor recommendations, your large envelopes addressed to each
college along with a Transcript request Form and the Counselor
Recommendation Form (also called the school report form), are due in
the College/ Career Center no later than November 10th. See Mrs.
Abrams or Mrs. Harris in D221.
2. Miss Teen Chinatown Scholarship. Applicants must submit a recent
photo, official transcript and application. Applications are available

Events/ Performance
1. Come to the BHS Poetry Slam: Tuesday, November 8, at 7 pm in G210.
Again, it is $1 to get in. Poets who want to perform can start to sign
up at 6:30 pm. Judges are taken from the audience. We go through one
round of 20 poets, and then the top 3 to 5 contestants go to a second
round. Poem time limit: 3 minutes.
2. The Berkeley High website is having a photo contest! Have your
featured on the homepage, which receives 20 thousand visitors a month!
Submissions will be accepted through November 18th. 15 photos will be
chosen and the winners will be notified. Visit the Berkeley high

more information.
2. Sweeney Todd is coming! Halloween will not be complete until
you’ve seen “The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”, a story of injustice,
