STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
October 18, 2005

Administration
1.	SPIRIT WEEK: Today is Tropical Day.

2.	Though Wednesday is Western Day,  please do not come to 
school with fake plastic guns or any other toy weapons. Thank You!!!!

3.	Parents:  We still have several dishes and containers from 
the PTSA luncheon.  Please come and pick them up or send your child. 
All containers are in the admin office and will be donated to an 
organization by Friday, October 23rd.

4.	URGENT PARENTS:  A doctor's appointment, dental appointment 
or other messages for your child should be taken care of BEFORE he or 
she comes to school.  We cannot interrupt the classrooms to give your 
child messages.  An emergency is someone seriously ill or an 
unfortunate death.

5.	There are senator positions open for the freshman and 
sophomore classes.  If you want to make a difference and have a voice 
in Berkeley High and school board policy write a note to Teal Miller 
and put it in Ivery McKnight-Johnson's mailbox.

6.	We need student representatives on the BSEP committee.  If 
you are interested, see Ivery McKnight-Johnson and come to the BSEP 
meeting, October 20th at 4:30p.m. in conference room B.

7.	BSEP meeting has been moved to October 20th; 4:30 -6:00 PM. 
The agenda is as follows: Establish a quorum,  Approval of Agenda 
Additions/ Changes, Review and approval of the minutes from last 
meeting, discuss roll of BSEP committee, Select representatives to 
the BSEP Planning and Oversight
committee, Review Funded Programs for 2005/6, set meeting dates for 
therest of the school year, and final adjournment.

8.	JOB:  Part-time positions open for a holiday gift wrapper and 
a cleaning person at The Gardener, 1836 Fourth Street(at Hearst), 
Berkeley.  Flexible hours after school and on weekends.  $9 per hour. 
Apply in person at the store or call 548-4545 and ask for a manager 
for more information.

9.	The City of Berkeley Youth Works program is currently giving 
out applications for after-school jobs at 1947 Center St.  8-5 PM.

Clubs
1.  Team Amnesty Week- October 16-22.  Is fear of old fines keeping 
you out of the library?  During Teen Amnesty Week, Berkeley Public 
Library will forgive both old and new fines.  We will work with you to
clear up old debts.  Just visit any library location; bring your ID. 
We want you back!  For more info call 510-981-6135.

2.  What are you smoking anyway?  Curious to learn more about what 
those BLUNTS might actually be doing to your body, your brain, your 
driving skills?  Whether you smoke or you're concerned about a friend 
or family member- come to an honest, confidential, nonjudgemental 
discussion about marijuana facilitated by a statewide expert. 
Wednesday, October 19th during ZERO period in classroom C, 2nd floor 
of the old gym.  Just show up.  Breakfast snacks provided.

3.  Hey Berkeley High!  Come to the best Buddies bake sale today in 
the courtyard between the G and the H building!  Everything is only 
25 cents.  See ya there!

4.  Knitting club is back!  Get ready for the winter months. 
Beginners are welcome-free yarn and needles to get you started!  We 
meet Mondays after school in the BHS library.  See ya there!

5.  There will be an informational meeting regarding Quiz Bowl. 
Opened to all students. We compete with many Bay Area Schools. PLEASE 
COME!!!

6.  Come be a part of "A Higher Calling" learn to sing and enjoy gospel music.

7.  Earphone English- Wednesday at lunch in C116. Come get your extra 
credit sheets!


Sports
1.	Winter Sports- Basketball, Soccer, wrestling- tryouts begin 
Monday, November 7.  In order to tryout, you must have a complete 
athletic packet.  Packets are available in the front office or in the 
athletic office.  If you have not had a physical in the last year, 
schedule one immediately either with your own doctor or the health 
center.


Senior / Junior Section
1.	Seniors!!  Please bring your baby pictures and summer weekend 
pictures to the yearbook office are due today in H102. Bring pictures 
in a self addressed and stamped envelope.

2.	Seniors!!  Senior polls are due today at lunch.  Bring them 
in H102 at lunch or after school today.

3.	Seniors College Representative visits are starting.  The 
complete October lists are available in D221.

Events/ Performance
1.	Don't miss it!  "College Rich" workshop.  Come out and find 
out how to get in great colleges and where to find the money to do 
it.  Learn how to turn your essays into money and how to find hidden 
scholarships in colleges.  October 22nd, 10-12 noon in the college 
career center.

2.	Spirit Week is coming!  It will be from October 17th through the 21st.
The dress up days are:
Monday-  60s and 70s day
Tuesday-  Tropical Day
Wednesday-  Western Day
Thursday- 80s day for Seniors and Pajama Day for upperclassmen
Friday- Red and Gold


SALES
1.	Juniors and Seniors: you waited us out!  All homecoming items 
from '04 and '05 are on sale!  Everything is $1.00.  That's right, 
$1.00.
Come to D148 (Student Activities Office) Thursday and Friday at lunch 
for xtra spirit week items.  Cash only

2.	Spirit week items for all classes (2006, 2007, 2008, and 
2009)  are on sale Tuesday, 10/18 to Thursday, 10/20 at lunch in the 
community theater- cash only.  Prices range from $1 - $20.00.

3.	BART tickets are in!  Come to D224 and pick yours up.
