STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

1.	Any BHS student in need of childcare financial assistance, please 
see Mrs. Parker for more information in room D224.

2.	The CANNED FOOD DRIVE is going on now.  All second period classes 
should be collecting non-perishable food items.  We need this food for 
the
Annual Holiday meal.  The second period with the most cans will win a 
pizza party.

3.	Berkeley Public Education Foundation has extended its grant deadline 
to next Monday, October 17th.  Applications must include cover sheet, 
and be in our office by 5pm.

4.	BSEP meeting has been moved to October 20th; 4:30 -6:00 pm. The 
agenda is as follows: Establish a quorum, Approval of Agenda Additions/ 
Changes,
Review and approval of the minutes from last meeting, discuss roll of 
BSEP committee, Select representatives to the BSEP Planning and 
Oversight
committee, Review Funded Programs for 2005/6, set meeting dates for the 
rest of the school year, and final adjournment.

5.	The City of Berkeley Youth Works program is currently giving out 
applications for after-school jobs at 1947 Center St.  8-5 pm.  Thanks.

Clubs
1.	Attention BHS students:  Speak on it is back.  1st meeting, 
Wednesday, October 12th at lunch in Conference Room B.  Food and drinks 
provided. Come voice your opinions about what’s missing for students at 
BHS.  See you there!  Thanks.

2.	Remember- Earphone English is now on Wednesdays at lunch in C116.  
See ya there.

3.	Attention all Academic Choice freshman mentors:  We will be going 
into freshman classes for the second time Wednesday, October 12th.  If 
you have not received an email regarding this, please stop by Mr. 
Carton’s room in C213 to leave your email and pick up more information.

4.	Achtung! Achtung!  Wednesdays is German Film Club day.  Come and see 
the end of Run Lola Run and help choose the new movie.  Bring you 
lunch! Everybody is welcome.

5.	Teen Amnesty Week- October 16-22:    Is fear of old fines keeping 
you out of the library?  During Teen Amnesty Week, Berkeley Public 
Library will
forgive both old and new fines.  We will work with you to clear up old 
debts.  Just visit any library location; bring your ID. We want you

6.	Hey Best Buddies!  Come to an intellectual disability training today 
at lunch in H106.

7.	BHS Mountain Bike Team meeting:  Interested in joining the mountain 
bike team?  If so, please come to one of the following meetings to 
learn
about the team and the upcoming season:  Thursday, October 13th at 
lunch in room H301.

8.	Having sex?  Thinking about having sex?  Sign up for condom club 
now! Bring your lunch and come to classroom G103 on Wednesday, October 
12th to
join.  Come once and get a sticker for the back of your student ID.  
Show your ID at the Health Center and receive 12 free condoms a week.  
Free food.

Sports
1.	Winter Sports (Basketball, Soccer, Wrestling):   Tryouts begin 
Monday, November 7.  In order to tryout, you must have a complete 
athletic packet. Packets are available in the front office or in the 
athletic office.  If you have not had a physical in the last year, 
schedule one immediately either with your own doctor or the health 
center.

2.	All girls interested in playing soccer for Berkeley High should come 
to an informational meeting on the BHS turf bleachers nearest the 
parking lot
today at lunch.  In case of rain, the meeting will be held in the 
Donahue Gym lobby.  Tryouts begin Monday, Nov.7th.

3.	All boys interested in playing soccer for Berkeley High Should come 
to an informational meeting on the BHS turf bleachers on Thursday at 
lunch.
In case of rain, the meeting will be moved to the Donahue Gym lobby. 
Tryouts begin Monday, November 7th.

4.	Congratulations to Head football coach Matt Bissell on his selection 
as the Raiders/NFL coach of the week, following the team’s league 
opener
versus Alameda High School.  Log on to <www.raiders.com> under” other 
news”.  The Jackets host Pinole this week. JV on Thursday at 4:30 pm 
and Varsity on Friday at 4:30 pm, Tickets are $3 students/ $5 adults.

5.	
Senior / Junior Section
1.	More PSAT information:  If you think your family income qualifies 
you for a fee waiver for the PSAT, please see Ms. Abrams in the 
College/
Career Center for documentation.  Then bring the paperwork to the 
ticket window on Allston Way during lunch or after school to 4 p.m.  
and for you
the test will cost nothing.  The PSAT will be given October 15th, 
Saturday.  Students should report to the garden area between the 
Donahue Gym and the C building at 8:30 a.m.  Bring your receipt, your 
photo ID, a calculator and several number 2 pencils.

2.	Applications for poll workers for the special election on November 
8th are now available.  Pick up an application in the main office and 
return it to Mrs. McKnight-Johnson’s mailbox by October 11th.

3.	Seniors:  Please bring your baby pictures and summer weekend 
pictures to the yearbook office in H102. Bring pictures in a self 
addressed and stamped envelope.

4.	Seniors:  College Representative visits are starting.  The complete 
September lists are available in D221.

Events/ Performance
1.	Stop by room C115 if you’d like to take a field trip to the museum 
for the Day of the Dead exhibit on Thursday, October 13th during  
4th-6th periods.  We
will also have a party on Friday starting after school to celebrate El 
Dia de la Raza and start a fundraiser for a trip to Spain and Mexico. 
Queremos que uste des espanol-hablantes vengan con nosotros al museo 
jueves  a la fiesta viernes.

2.	Spirit Week is coming!  It will be from October 17th through the 
21st.
The dress up days are:
Monday-  60’s and 70’s day
Tuesday-  Tropical Day
Wednesday – Western Day
Thursday- 80s day for Seniors, underclassmen –Pajama Day
Friday- Red and Gold



SALES

1.	Okay, Juniors and Seniors: You waited us out!  All Homecoming items 
from ‘04 and ’05 are on sale!  Everything is $1.00 --that’s right, 
$1.00. Come to D148 (Student Activities Office) Thursday and Friday at 
lunch for extra spirit week items.  Cash only!

2.	BHS Yearbooks go on sale October 3rd after school and at lunch in 
H102. They will be sold from October 3- 14th.  The price of the book 
will be $65.  Cash, checks and money orders are accepted;  please make 
checks and money orders payable to Berkeley High Yearbook.
