SAT WORD OF THE DAY:   PHILANTHROPIST - a wealthy person who donates
money to worthy causes.  Bill Gates, a billionaire and
philanthropist, has given large amounts of money to find a cure for
malaria and fund small schools, among other worthy causes. 

*The next senior parent's College Night will be held on Tuesday,
October 25 at 6:30 in the BHS library.  Speakers include the new
director of admissions at UC Berkeley and representatives from the
California State University system, a private university and
community colleges.  I look forward to seeing you all!

FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS
SAT/ACT TEST DATES - October 12 is the late registration deadline for
the November 5 SAT and SAT subject tests. November 4 is the regular
registration for the December 3 ACT.  I generally recommend that
juniors take the PSAT in October and wait until spring to take the
SAT or the ACT.   

WRITING COMPETITION FOR 10-12TH GRADERS - Bennington College Young
Writers Awards invite you to submit your poem, short story, play or
nonfiction essay.  Submission forms are available in D221.  Deadline:
November 1.  

JOB OPPORTUNITY
Work in an insurance office.  Requires accurate filing, copying,
scanning, etc.  Five to ten hours per week.  Pay: $9 per hour.
