2. BHS Holiday Meal Canned Food Drive Kick Off 9/29/05
3. Staff Development Day 10/10/05

Berkeley High School is hosting Back to School Night on Thursday,
September 29th, beginning at 7:00 pm. The evening will be arranged to
follow an abbreviated schedule for eight class periods. Zero and
seventh and eighth periods will meet at the end of the evening (see
below). Each class will meet for ten minutes, with six minutes of
travel time between classes. Students should bring home a copy of
their schedule. Also, you should have received a blank schedule for
your student to complete in a mailing that was sent home about two
weeks ago. However, if you do not get a schedule from your student(s),
copies will be available in the Berkeley High School Food Court.
During each class, teachers will discuss their courses and answer
questions about course content and procedures. Parents and guardians
will also have a chance to meet administrators and enjoy coffee and
cookies in the BHS Food Court.

Please note that Back to School Night is not intended to address
questions about individual students. You should call or email your
student's counselor or individual teacher at any time if you have
questions or concerns about your child.

2. The BHS CANNED FOOD DRIVE is kicking off THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 AT
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT! Donations will be used for this year's BHS
Holiday Meal. Parents can bring non-perishable canned foods to BHS and
drop them off in labeled bins on the first floor of the C-building.
Students can donate cans by bringing them into their second period
classroom. The class that donates the most cans will win a pizza party.

Etree Note: For those new to Berkeley High, the canned food drive is in
support of the BHS Holiday Meal, an event organized each year by
Leadership Class and which brings together all segments of the BHS
community to prepare and serve a festive and delicious meal to those in
our community who are in need.

Last year the Berkeley Holiday Meal served 275 members of our Berkeley
community. There were over 100 student volunteers (representing all
grades) who arrived as early as 6:30 am to prepare the meal.  There
were also parent volunteers all day who served, carved turkeys,
cleaned, greeted, and supervised. There were 12 turkeys and 6 hams
donated by parents and staff. The students received $800.00 in cash
donation (almost 400.00 in donations through the BHS Penny Drive).
There were 996 can collected through the canned food drive, Community
businesses such as Acme Bread, The Cheeseboard, Safeway on Rose St.,
Trader Joes of Emeryville, and the Monterey Produce Market all made
significant donations. Please donate generously.

3. Please note on your calendar that Oct 10 is a district-wide Staff
Development Day as staff will be meeting for various types of
professional development. There is no school for students on this day.
