The BHS CANNED FOOD DRIVE is kicking off THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 AT
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT!

Donations will be used for this year's BHS Holiday Meal. Parents can
bring non-perishable canned foods to BHS and drop them off in labeled
bins on the first floor of the C-building. Students can donate cans by
bringing them into their second period classroom. The class that
donates the most cans will win a pizza party.

Etree Note: For those new to Berkeley High, the canned food drive is in
support of the BHS Holiday Meal, an event organized each year by
Leadership Class and which brings together all segments of the BHS
community to prepare and serve a festive and delicious meal to those in
our community who are in need.

Last year the Berkeley Holiday Meal served 275 members of our Berkeley
community. There were over 100 student volunteers (representing all
grades) who arrived as early as 6:30 am to prepare the meal.  There
were also parent volunteers all day who served, carved turkeys,
cleaned, greeted, and supervised. There were 12 turkeys and 6 hams
donated by parents and staff. The students received $800.00 in cash
donation (almost 400.00 in donations through the BHS Penny Drive).
There were 996 can collected through the canned food drive, Community
businesses such as Acme Bread, The Cheeseboard, Safeway on Rose St.,
Trader Joes of Emeryville, and the Monterey Produce Market all made
significant donations. Please donate generously.
