STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
September 6, 2005

Administration
1.  No school on MONDAY, September 5,  for Labor Day.

2.  Teachers- please do not forget to send down your NO SHOW slips to Ruby
Taylor every day at second period.

3.  Want to improve your memory, thinking and problem solving skills?  Want to
enhance your love life, driving skills and your athletic ability?  Then
bury the blunt, pitch the purple- stop using and start learning.  For help
contact Tricia at 644-8987 or go to Room G202.

4.  All leadership officers will meet Wednesday at 3:15 in the food court
for the 1st leadership meeting of the 2005-06 school year.  There are many
items to discuss and many duties to delegate to each class.  Please
arrange your schedules to attend.

5.  There will be assemblies each period today.  All English teachers
please bring your students to the Little Theater at the beginning of your
period.

6.  URGENT!  You must have a parking permit in your car in order to park in
the three school parking lots.  We will tow cars beginning today at 11:00
am! There is NO parking for students on campus!

7.  Students if you need a copy of your schedule please report to the
Counseling Center (Rhonda Jefferson) and Records center (Antoinette Cooks).

8.  LOCKERS- Please sign up for them at lunch and after school in H104.
Students:  Please do not put a lock on a locker unless you have been
assigned that locker!  Your lock will be cut.

9.  Cell Phone Policy- Students are allowed to use their cell phones before
school, during lunch and after school.  Students are not allowed to use
their cell phones during passing periods, in the hall or in the
classrooms.  Cell phones must be turned off during all other times and
kept out of sight.  Students that use cell phones during class time or
passing periods, or if the cell phone rings it will be confiscated and
turned into an administrator.  The administrator will determine when and
how the cell phone will be returned.  The school administration will not
be responsible for lost, stolen or damaged cell phones.

10.  All students in the halls during class time must have a pass.

11.  Just small FYI- bathrooms in the C-building are only open on the
second floor due to reconstruction of the restrooms.


Clubs
1.  Do you want to be a lawyer?  Are you interested in criminal law?  Do
you want to lower the suspension rate on campus?  Sign up for the Berkeley
High Student Court where students get to argue and decide real BHS
discipline cases.  For an application go to H201.

2.  The future belongs to those who prepare for it today. Sign up for the
Black Student Union.  Meetings will be held on Wednesdays during lunch in
H214.  The first meeting will be held Sept. 7th.

3.  Informational meeting on the Berkeley High Student Court.  Come to H201
today at lunch.  Ask questions about being a student lawyer or a student
juror.  Get information about receiving community service credit.  Help
improve the Berkeley High discipline process.

4.  Now recruiting: Peer Health Educators and Youth Advisors.  Pick up
applications in the BHS Health Center waiting room.  Applications are due
September 14th.

5.  Attention All BHS staff, please use the back door if accessing the
Health center bathroom, so that student confidentiality is not
compromised.  Thank you for your support.

6.  First Meeting: Forensics: Debate and Public Speaking D218 (Next to the
library).  Join the team that Malcolm X and John Kennedy joined.


Sports
1.  Football, Football, Football: It is not too late to tryout.  Come see
Coach Bissell after school on the football field for more information.  Do
not delay!  I look forward to meeting you.

2.  All students interested in running Cross Country see Coach Goodrich in
G105 or go to the BHS track at 4:30 pm.

3.  Staff swim is available to BUSD personnel every Monday and Wednesday in
the competition pool from 7-8 am starting Wednesday 9/7.  At least one
lane will be dedicated to staff while the water polo and swim team works
out.  Questions see Bill Gaebler at 4-8888.


Senior / Junior Section
1.  SENIORS- If you are applying to private colleges which need a counselor
recommendation, your Senior Profiles are due on September 9th if you are
applying Early Decision or Early Action and September 23rd for Regular
Decision.  You do NOT need to fill these out if you are applying only the
UC’s, Cal State Universities or community colleges.

2.  SAT/ACT Test dates- Friday, September 2nd is the late registration
deadline for the September 24 ACT tests.  Tuesday, September 7th is the
regular registration deadline for the October 8th SAT and SAT subject tests.


Events/ Performance
1.   Come out and meet American Idol Contestant Latoya London.  She will be
appearing on campus today at lunch with a message of success for all
students.  She will also be available for questions and autographs after
her performance.  Senior steps at lunch.
