College Advisor's Bulletin

SAT WORD OF THE DAY:  SUPPLANT – to replace.  Because it has no
natural enemies, the Kudzu vine has spread wildly and supplanted many
native plant species in the southern U.S.

FOR PARENTS

September 27 – Senior parents college night at 6:30 p.m. in the BHS
library.  Please come to get all of your questions answered about the
college application process.

Would you like to spend some time in the College/Career Center?  We
are looking for volunteers to commit to volunteering one day per week
from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. so that Ms. Harris can go to lunch and the
college advisors can meet with students.  One semester commitment
requested.  If you would like to volunteer, please e-mail me at
iabrams at berkeley.k12.ca.us and let me know which day is best for you.

FOR SENIORS

*Need help with your Senior Profile?  Come to the College Center on
Tuesday, September 6 and Thursday, September 8 at lunchtime.  Janet
Huseby will be here to help you.

COLLEGE INFORMATION SESSIONS IN THE BAY AREA
September 4 - Colgate University information interviews, 5555
Shellmound St., Emeryville, 3:00-8:00 p.m.  Call 315-228-7401 to
schedule an appointment.
September 10 - Colgate University information session, 1800 Old
Bayshore Highway, Burlingame, 9:30 a.m.  Call 315-228-7401 for a
reservation.  Note:  Colgate is unable to send a representative to
Berkeley High this year.
September 14 - U of Pennsylvania information session, 7:30 p.m.,
Crowne Plaza Hotel, Union Square, 480 Sutter Street, San Francisco.
No reservation necessary.

SENIORS:  Mr. Stringfellow and I will be speaking to your English
classes beginning on September 12th and setting up individual
appointments the following week.  Until then, you may stop by at
lunch or after school to get your questions answered.

REMINDER:  If you are applying to private colleges which need a
counselor recommendation, your Senior Profiles are due on September
9th if you are applying Early Decision or Early Action and September
23rd for Regular Decision.  You do NOT need to fill these out if you
are applying only the UC’s, Cal State Universities or community
colleges.

SCHOLARSHIPS

an outstanding achievement you have accomplished in a non-academic
activity or project which occurred in school, community or workplace.

FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS

SAT/ACT TEST DATES -- TODAY - Friday, September 2 is the late
registration deadline for the September 24 ACT test.  Tuesday,
September 7 is the regular registration deadline for the October 8
SAT and SAT subject tests.

JOB INFORMATION
East Bay Municipal Utility District has an opening for a worker
trainee, preferably a junior or senior in high school who is at least
16 years old and has a minimum of 2.0 GPA.  Students must be
available to work 3 to 4 consecutive hours between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00
p.m. Monday through Friday for a maximum of 19.5 hours per week.

Lawrence Berkeley Lab is looking for a senior to work as a student
assistant for two hours per day, in the computing sciences/human
resources department.  General office work, should know Microsoft
Office and enjoy working with people.  $7.00 an hour.  Free shuttle
