At the BUSD board meeting on August 24 the following items were of interest
to BHS community:

1. Textbook Adoption: Living in the Environment The Board received the
textbook Living in the Environment for review and
adoption by Science & Environmental Studies at BHS. This was the second
reading for this item. Complete information on Item 3.1-CF is available for
review in the August 24 Board packet, located in the Board Meeting section

2. Proposal for an Introduction to Community Service Professions Course at
BHS
The Board approved the Introduction to Community Service Professions Course
at BHS. Complete information on Item 3.2-CF is available for review in the
August 24,  Board packet, located in the Board Meeting section of the BUSD
website.

3. Consideration and Progress Report: Derby Street Project
The Board received a report on the East Campus/Derby Street Field with a
concept plan for a Closed Derby Street Option and reviewed the Open Derby
Street Option concept plan brought before the Board in May. The Board
directed staff to come back with a report that would reconcile the cost
variances between the two plans; compare both plans bare bones to bare
bones, and the additional costs that would be incurred if the open Derby
Street option is phase one and the closed Derby Street option is phase
two.  No Action was taken.

4. The Board is seeking applications for vacancies in these areas:
Board Committees
-Facilities Safety & Maintenance Oversight   Committee (FSMOC)
-School Construction Oversight Committee (SCOC)
Commissions
-Youth Commission
-Peace and Justice Commission

5. The BUSD School Board Meeting will be re-broadcast on Berkeley Community
Media Cable Channel 33 on Sunday August 28, at 12 p.m. All Board meetings
are broadcast live on Berkeley Community Media Cable Channel 33 and KPFB
Radio 89.3, and re-broadcasted on channel 33 the following Thursday morning
at 9AM and often two times over the weekend. The weekend schedule varies,
but schedule information can be found at their website: [
