College Fair and Information Session featuring colleges listed in Loren
Pope’s book, “Colleges That Change Lives.” These are 40 small liberal
arts colleges that, as Pope notes in his book, “
share two essential
elements: a familial sense of communal enterprise that gets students
heavily involved in cooperative rather than competitive learning, and a
faculty of scholars devoted to helping young people develop their powers,
mentors who often become their valued friends.” They are schools with a
commitment to undergraduate education, where students are taught by
professors and have many out-of-classroom learning opportunities.
Students do not need to have exceptional grades to be admitted to many of
these schools. The schools are looking for students who have an
excitement about learning and participating in life. Tuesday, August 9,
7:00-9:00 p.m., South San Francisco Conference Center, 255 South Airport
Blvd., South San Francisco, CA 94080, 650-877-8787. www.ctcl.com.
