Administration
1. BUSD Summer School applications are in the Counseling reception
area- D141. Please sign up early to reserve a space. Deadline is May
20th.
2. All student applicants for student government candidates must attend
an after school information meeting on May 10th in C400.
3. Attention CSF Seal Bearer seniors!! The scholarship application for
CSF is now available in the College Career Center. These applications
are due Tuesday, May 10, so pick them up now! Don’t forget to finish
your tutoring!
4. Attention musicians and artists: ESCAPE will be having its last
program of the year on Friday. Come hang out with Cal students, make a
beat, paint a picture, and eat a LOT of junk food. Friday at 3:30
-5:00 in the food court! See ya there!
5. Free Summer Flight Academy sponsored by the SFBAC of Tuskegee Airmen
for students ages 14 to 18. You will receive 40 hours of ground school
and up to 10 hours of actual flying time. Applications available in
the College/ Career Center. For more information, call 510-236-6250.
Deadline: May 31.
6. Anyone interested in being next year’s School Site Council or Shared
Governance committee student representative must see Ivery
McKnight-Johnson for details before Monday, May 9. All Shared
Governance representatives must be on School Site Council and will be
elected by the Site Council. Applications are in Ms. McKnight’s room
-C406.
7. Attention all CSF members, the tutoring for spring semester is due,
Wednesday, May 11. Do your tutoring now!
8. Attention: Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors. Applications for
Student Body Government and Class Officers are available now. The
application deadline is Monday, May 9th forms are in C406, Counseling
office, and the Main office.
9. City of Oakland – Sports official, part-time to officiate evenings
and weekends at city sports and athletic events. Applicants must be at
least 16 years old, have a valid driver’s license. Please call
238-3112. Salary $16.06 an hour.
10. Sophomores and Juniors: if you still need to take the California
High School exit Exam, please report to the Jacket gym at 7:30 am on
Tuesday, May 10, for English Language Arts and at 7:30 am on Wednesday,
May 11th, for math. Please bring your photo ID and don’t be late!
Remember that you must pass this test in order to graduate! If you
have any questions, see Rory Bled, Vice-Principal.
Clubs
1. BHS girls “Speak on It” will meet today, May 5th, at lunchtime.
Food and drinks served. See ya there!
2. Culture and Exchange Club members come to a meeting Friday during
1st period in C134. Come plan our upcoming fieldtrip. Get permission
slips from Mr. Berkman.
3. There will be a Club Commissioner’s meeting today. All club reps
must attend to hold events or fundraisers for the month of May. If you
cannot make the meeting because of AP testing, please speak to Ms.
McKnight-Johnson or Noah Fine Nathel in C400.
4. The Black Student Union is hosting a Career Day in G210. All day on
Friday, May 6th, 2005. There will be people in the fields of law,
medicine and biotechnology. See you there!
5. The Black Student Union will have a meeting today at lunch in H214.
We will talk about upcoming events, and upcoming elections.
6. Earphone English will meet this Friday at lunch in C116. Anyone who
comes will get to help choose new audio books to order for next year.
Sports
1. The DVLL Girls Lacrosse quarterfinal between Berkeley High and
Carondelet has been scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at 7:00 pm at
Acalanes. Good luck Jackets!
Senior / Junior Section
1. Today, May 5, John Rose would like to give a presentation about the
job interview process, how to prepare, what not to wear, work place
etiquette- All this will happen in the College/Career center from
10:35am to 11:32 am. Please contact the Career center if you are
interested in attending.
2. Juniors- Pick up the University of California pamphlet, “Introducing
the University.” It contains valuable information on admissions
statistics and majors for each campus, application and financial aid
information and much more. Come by the College Center to get your
copy.
3. Seniors- this is your chance to be recognized! The Senior Awards
Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 24 at 7:00 pm in the Community
Theater. Pick up the Senior Awards ceremony form in the College/Career
Center and let us know about scholarships, awards and honors you have
won. Deadline: Wednesday, May 11, so you can be listed in the program.
Events/ Performance
1. Spring Musical is here! The moment you’ve been waiting for is
almost here! A CHORUS LINE opens this Friday at 8 pm, plays again on
Saturday and Sunday at 7pm. Pay what you can, $12 is requested for
non-students. Come see this incredible student-directed show with live
band and sensational dance and singing- don’t miss it.
2. Attention all singer/actors: Youth Musical Theater Company, which
recently produced “Jesus Christ Superstar” is holding auditions for its
Fall 2005 production of “Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet
Street”, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Information and
Audition Sign up meetings will be on Tuesday, May 17 at 4:00 pm and
Wednesday, May 18 at 7:00 in the Berkeley High choral Room. Open
auditions will be held May 31 – June 2, 4:00 – 8:00, audition time in
advance. For more information, see flyers in the A building or call
595-5514.
3. Uplifting Graceful Energy- Dance: May 12th at 7:30 pm at the
Berkeley Community Theater. Tickets are $7.00 for students, $10.00
reserved, and $3.00 children under 13 and senior citizens.
4. Come hear the future of jazz! The internationally acclaimed BHS
Jazz Ensemble and Combos take the stage at Yoshi’s for two shows on
Wednesday, May 11th. Appearing with them will be Mic Gillette, the
dynamic trumpeter and trombonist with Tower of Power. Tickets for t5he
two shows, at 8 pm and 10 pm are $10 and can be purchased from Yoshi’s
in Jack London Square, 510 Embarcadero West, 238-9200 or by calling
Christina Aceves, 525-3282.
Sales
1. Senior Ball tickets are $70 so get them while they last!
2. Yearbooks are $70 now! Get them in H102 at lunch on Tuesday and
Thursdays or Zero period on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
