Embracing Diversity Films and Albany High School PTA
present "Building Bridges" from "The New Americans" on
Tuesday April 12 at 7 p.n. at Albany High School, 603
Key Route Blvd. in Albany. Enter through the main
doors on Key Route Blvd., turn left and walk down the
hall to Room 109 on the right. Please arrive early as
space is limited. Admission is free and donations are
welcome. Audience members are invited to participate
in a facilitated discussion following the screening.

The recent PBS series, "The New Americans," follows a
diverse group of immigrants and refugees as they leave
their home and families behind and learn what it means
to be Americans in the 21st century. From the
producers and director of "Hoop Dreams," "The New
Americans" captures the lives of contemporary
immigrants in all their complexities. The series
portrays ordinary people, engaged in day-to-day
struggles of earning a living, raising a family, and
leading productive lives, while struggling with
differences of race, language, and culture.

"Building Bridges" is a composite of two stories from
"The New Americans." The first story, "The Domenican
Baseball Players," follows two Los Angeles Dodgers
prospects with big dreams of leaving the barrio
behind. The second story, "The Ogoni Refugees,"
travels with two Nigerian refugee families as they
escape persecution and resettle in Chicago.
