STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
March 10, 2005


Administration

1.	There will be no school on FRIDAY,  March 11th in honor of 
International Women’s Day Holiday.

2.	Wow! Today is Ms. Russ’s birthday, and she’s one year younger!  She 
is x squared – 35x =114 (years old)

3.	AP EXAMS:  You can register for AP exams next Monday, March 14th. 
Students can register at the D building ticket window on Allston Way
during lunch and after school from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm daily through 
Friday, March 25th.  The fee per test is $95.  Tests are the first two 
weeks in May.  For more questions contact Rory Bled or Benette 
Williams.

4.	Attention young ladies of BHS!  “Speak on It” has been postponed 
until March 24, 2005.  The next two meetings are cancelled.  Meetings 
will begin
again on the 24th of March at lunch in conference room B.  See you 
there.

5.	Berkeley High students and families, please help cheer on the BHS 
World Affairs Challenge team, Saturday, March 12th at San Francisco 
State
University.  This team has been working hard to create this year’s 
topic: Energy and Environment.  Please come to Burke Hall at SFSU, 1600 
Halloway Street, 9am – 11am.  For more information call 841-5420.

6.	Next year there will be two sections of Jazz Lab Band for interested 
musicians.  Mr. Hamilton will add a Jazz Band II class for advanced and
more experienced musicians.  If you are interested in auditioning for 
this class please come on the following days:
Trumpets and Trombones: Tuesday, March 15th at 3:30pm
  Bass, Guitars, Drums, Pianos, and Saxophones: Thursday, March 17th at 
3:30 pm

7.	Math tutors needed first and second period to work one-on-one with 
students in Geometry and Algebra IIB.  Get peer tutoring and community
service credit and help other students succeed!  Talk to Ms. Johnston 
in H201 or Ms. Russ in H202.

8.	10th graders: Don’t forget that you need to take the California High 
School Exit Exam on Tuesday, March 15 and Wednesday, March 16.  You 
have
to pass this test in order to graduate from high school in California. 
You must arrive at the Old Gym on Milvia Street at 7:30 am each day.  
You should bring No. 2 pencils and a photo ID.  Calculators and scratch 
paper are not allowed.  Make sure to get lots of rest before each test 
and eat a good breakfast.

9.	LOST: If you found or seen a black Sean John Jacket please return it 
to the admin office.  No questions asked!  Reward if found.

Clubs
1.	Latino graduation committee meets at lunch on Thursdays in 
Conference Room B.  Come and help make graduation special.

2.	Want to be a Princess for a Day?  Come to the Prom Fair today in the 
Community Theatre at 3:15pm and register for a free Prom Dress!

3.	Wednesday, March 23, 2005- BHS Poetry Slam!  Slam: 7:00 pm room 
G210. $1 donation at the door will cover prize.  Sign up to read, 6:30 
pm.  Have two poems ready in case you make round 2.

4.	The Berkeley High Student Tech Crew needs new crew members!  Come to 
the meeting in Mr. Winer’s room A203 at lunch on Tuesday, March 15th.  
No prior experience is necessary.

5.	Feeling Anger, confused or sad after loosing someone special come to 
a support group Monday at lunch in conference room B.  Bring something 
special that reminds you of the person.  Lunch will be provided.

6.	Attention all CSF members:  New tutoring sheets are now available in 
the College Career Center.  Also, the deadline to turn in tutoring has 
been moved to May 2nd.

7.	Have you ever considered joining the military?  Been approached by a 
military recruiter?  Do you know what rights you have if a military 
draft is reinstated?  On Wednesday, March 23rd, the CAS Social-Action 
committee will host a teach in during 2nd through 5th periods in the 
Little Theater. Experts from the community will present their 
experiences and answer your questions.  2nd period will feature a slide 
show given by a returned soldier from Iraq.  3rd period is a panel 
discussion about military recruitment.  The 4th period panel will 
explain your rights and responsibilities if a draft is reinstated.  And 
5th period will feature registered conscientious objectors.  Students, 
tell your teachers to bring your class!  Teachers, mark your calendars 
and look for a sign up sheet in your boxes!  For more information go to

Sports
Senior / Junior Section
1.	Seniors-time is running out.  The cap and gown ordering period is 
almost over.  All orders need to be placed by March 25th.  Contact 
Jostens right away at 1-408-426-6083.

2.	Attention all beautiful and handsome 05’ers:  Do you have a magnetic 
personality and an exuberant talent?  If you do, then we want you to be 
our prom queen and prom king.  To find out more about Senior Ball 
Royalty Campaigns rules and requirements, contact Senior Class 
President Hong Doan

3.	Attention Seniors and Juniors, Berkeley High is having a Prom Fair 
today, March 10th.  The event will take place in the courtyard 
after-school from 3:15 to 4:30pm.  There will be 25 early bird specials 
for Senior ball tickets at the price of $45 each;  Senior Ball Royalty 
applications, limo services, dresses/tuxedos, hair services, KMEL DJ, 
snacks and refreshments and much more.

4.	College visits:
Wednesday, March 16th, 9:30 am. - Cal Poly San Luis Obispo- for 
admitted seniors and juniors who are interested in the school.
Thursday, March 17th at 2:20 pm - Prescott College, Arizona
  Sign up in the College Center.  This is an excellent school for 
students
Who are interested in learning by doing in interdisciplinary small 
classes? as well as field studies.  The school stresses individualized
and self-  directed studies.  Majors include human development, 
eco-psychology, and many more.


Events/ Performance
1.	Jesus Christ Superstar- Come see this exciting rock opera by Tim 
Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, starring 40 talented middle and high 
school
students from around the East Bay; 26 of them from Berkeley High!  
Opening this Friday, March 11, 7:30 at Longfellow Middle School.  See 
details on
posters around the school.

2.	The powerhouse BHS Jazz Ensemble, Lab Band and award –winning small 
combos perform at the Berkeley Repertory Theater on Sunday, March 13th 
from 11:30 am – 3:00 pm in a benefit for the BHS music program that 
will help support a DOUBLING in the number of students in the jazz 
program. Attendees will sip wine, feast on a lunch prepared by Poulet 
and bid on exquisite items at a silent auction.  For two years in a row 
the Jazz Ensemble has been ranked the top high school band nationwide 
at the Monterey Jazz festival competition.  Tickets are $40 general 
admission, $25 12 and under, and $75 for community patrons.  For

3.	En Pointe Youth Dance Company would like to invite Berkeley High 
students to their annual show at the Roda Theatre this weekend.  En 
Pointe
is a youth run dance company started by Berkeley High School students 
Joanna Poz-Molesky and Ann Rigney.  The show will feature the youth’s
choreography featuring modern dance, ballet, hip hop.  Come and support 
your fellow students on Friday and Saturday (March 11th and 12th) at 
8:00 at the Roda Theatre(next to the Berkeley Rep).

Sales

1.	Adv. ROP Photo is having a bake sale Tuesday, March 15th on the 
steps of the Community Theater at lunch.  Stop by and get some goodies!

2.	Seniors! Deposit #1 is being collected for the Senior Trip at lunch 
everyday until March 15th.  Deposits are $65.00 and must be paid in 
money order only!  Make Money orders payable to Distinguished Charters.

3.	Yearbooks are currently on sale for $65.00!  They can be bought in 
H102 in the morning before 8:15 a.m. or at lunch on Tuesdays and 
Thursdays.
Prices will go up one more time before the end of the year so get them 
now! We are also soliciting advertisements for the 2004/2005 yearbook, 
ads are $60.00 ¼ page, $100 ½ page, $200 full page.
